Text Entry as button - keyboard control

I'm working on a project in which learners listen to a snippet of a call and fill out a form. Ideally, I'd like the snippet to play when learners click on the text entry field. This works fine when using a mouse, but it doesn't seem to work when using keyboard controls.

Any ideas of how to make this work with keyboard controls, or should I just add a play button next to each text entry?
