Text Input project that doesn't always Complete

I have a 'text input box' related problem with a project file that was handed down to me.

I was have a small project (5 slides), in which 3 slides present separate case studies, and students are asked to determine what intervention they would recommended.

After typing and saving their response, an additional tab is revealed that allows them to compare their answers with the correct answers. The last slide is a summary slide that restates the 3 cases, the correct answers, and the student's answers. On this slide the student clicks Submit, which either ends the module, or let's them know they have not completed all of the cases.

This module works as designed at least 95% of the time.

Occasionally, students who have properly completed all of the activities will receive the 'You have not completed all of the case studies" message, and they can not finish, even if they re-complete the text input box activities.

A lot of times the affected users report accessing the course via an Apple device. But, today I was able to experience it on a Windows 11 laptop.

Is this a device-specific glitch, or is there some setting I am overlooking?

I have attached the file, if that will help.

thanks,

    Hi,

Forgive me if i'm misunderstanding your issue, but I don't think it's related to how people are accessing your course.

From what I can see, each case will only be marked as 'Completed' if a user click on the hotspot which reveals the text box. However, even clicking the 'Type your answer' button reveals the actual layer to type. This circumvent would stop the status of that case changing to 'Completed'.

Because it's on a true/false variable, I've not tested this far, but I would also imagine when revisiting a case and clicking the hotspot, would change the state from completed, until you went back a third time and clicked again, to make the statement true.

I think what else could be causing a slight issue is the order you have your triggers. On each case page you initially had the set up as show the layer 'Text Input box' first, and then the complete status. I would personally change it the other way, so it 100% captures the Completed state before showing the layer (see below).

Hopefully I understood your issue correctly and the above would solve it, feel free to reach back out though if i'm mistaken.

    Many thanks,

    Dan

  • Thanks for the quick reply and the tip.

I swapped the orders of the triggers, and will trial that.

(like I stated, it happens to only a small % of our students, so knowing for certain this is the solution may be hard to tell immediatly)

    Hi,

    No worries at all.

I think it's less the orders of the triggers though, and more about the fact that people can get to the text entry box without clicking the hot spot that actually sets the case to completed. Here's the trigger that sets each case to complete. It's assigned to the hotspot on each case, not the actual typing box.

I'd suggest getting rid of the trigger on the red 'Type Your Answer' box that says:

You want them to have to click on the hotspot, the trigger allows them to skip that part.

Hope that makes sense, but please reach out if you need more info.

    Thanks,

    Dan
