Text to Speech

Is there a plan to upgrade the voices for text-to-speech? Vyond upgraded, and it makes a big difference.

Thank you,

Michele

  • Hello Michele!

Are you looking to do something specific with text-to-speech that you can't currently do? I'm happy to share this with the team and see if it's an enhancement we are looking into.

Lauren, Thank you. I am looking for higher-quality voices. The robotic sound can become monotonous for long curriculums.

We've heard others share similar, so we do have this logged as a feature request! I don't have a timeline to share, but when this makes it on our roadmap, I'll be sure to share in this discussion.

  • Hello, Michele!

I'm happy to share that we have released a new update for Storyline 360 (v3.80.30988.0.).

In this update, we included an enhancement for:

    • Support for NTTS or Neural Voices

Please update to the latest version of Storyline 360 to see this improvement. Here's how:

    Update Authoring Apps

If you have any questions, please let us know in this thread or privately in a support case.

    Have a great day!

I checked this out and found the voice going too fast. Is there a way to control the speed?

        Hi Lata!

Happy to jump in here! It sounds like you were looking for more editing tools for Text-to-Speech in Storyline.

I'm happy to share we currently have a feature request logged to give authors the ability to speed up/slow down the pace of TTS! I've included you in the feature report and will update this discussion if it makes it onto our Feature Roadmap.

        Have a great weekend!

Hi there, are there any plans to add Irish accents as an option for English text to speech? Vyond have some and they are great when creating local resources. Thank you!

      Hi Emily!

      Happy to jump in here!

I can confirm what Jurgen shared. The Text-to-Speech engine (Polly) that Storyline uses is developed by Amazon. However, our development team is tracking feedback on Additional Language Voices for TTS.

Currently, Storyline does offer an Irish-English-speaking Female voice.

To clarify, were you asking about a Male alternative? I'd be happy to include you in the feature report so you can be notified of any updates!

Hi Steven, amazing, thank you. I was looking under "English" so I didn't spot it. More options for Irish voices would be great.

I appreciate you coming back to me, I'm much happier with my module now!

  • Just an FYI if anyone is using the built-in text-to-speech for languages other than English, even with the new neural voices we ran into some issues that are easily fixed but can be avoided if you know about them.

In the English text-to-speech, you can include things like ™ and colons, these will not be said when you generate the speech, but we have noticed in the Spanish (LA) speech for example, the generated speech seems to say everything. So trademark symbols and colons specifically we had a bit of a nightmare with, having to manually remove them so they wouldn't be said. No big deal, but can save you time if you know there are differences in how the English speech is generated vs other languages.

      Hi John!

Thanks for taking the time to share that with the community! I'm sure other Text-to-Speech users will find the feedback very helpful!

Have a great start to your week and happy developing!

I'm loving the new neural voices, but there are no TTS for Hungarian language.  Would it be possible to update your library.?  I've produced some great courses in English, now my client has decided they want them in Hungarian also!! Help.

    • Hi Tex!

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know! So glad to hear you've been enjoying the neural Text-to-Speech options in Storyline!

I've included your feedback in the feature report we are currently tracking for Additional Language Voices for TTS. You're in the right place for updates and we'll be sure to let you know as soon as we have news to share!

Have a great rest of your week!
