TIP: Give Partial Credit on Multiple Response Questions
Multiple Choice questions can give partial credit for wrong answers.
Multiple Response questions can’t.
So what can you do if you want to give partial credit for Multiple Response answers?
Use a disguised Multiple Choice slide!
The attached Storyline file demonstrates how to do this. It also explains the programming.

Thankyou Judy! You are amazing! So simple and elegant. This is a perfect solution for what I was trying to do. I was having great difficulty getting my custom quiz variables into the LMS. I slightly adapted your method to using a Pick One freeform, in order to achieve partial scores out of 30.

Thanks Judy. There always seems to be a workaround for a missing feature. Here's a follow-up question... At the end of the quiz, can the points results be reported to the LMS for tracking a user's score? I have the challenge to report points scores for 5 topic areas separately (ie. 1 semi-long quiz with 5 separate point scores recorded in LMS). I'm not quite entering crazy town yet, but on my way.

You might be able to get the info you need if you create 5 separate quizzes, each with its own Results slide. Then track course completion with a Results slide that "scores" the other Results slide.
However, I can't say for sure that would do what you want. A lot depends on the publishing standard (e.g., SCORM 2004, xAPI) and the LMS.
And how any of that data is pulled into a report also depends on the LMS.
I suggest you create a quickie prototype, and then test it in the SCORM Cloud. (Or in your LMS, if you can.)
I also suggest that if you have additional questions about this, you start a new discussion. That will make it more likely to be seen by any others who have experience with this type of tracking.

Thanks for the suggestion Judy, it's a great example and must have taken you a while to put it together but it's not a viable option for the 240 questions I've got across 8 papers.
The basic offering in the LMS can award x points for a correct selection, 0 points added or subtracted for an incorrect response and 0 points for the whole question if the user selects all options within the question.
I agree. This is frustrating that Storyline hasn't get this feature, while other authoring tools that are less advanced than Storyline has it built-in and no need to do all these steps.
As an authoring tool and one main use for it is creating courses and assessments, this should be a basic feature.
Please take our suggestion into consideration. It will make a big difference.I do have to agree with Bonnie, and I am not new to Storyline, but this seems like too much work, with possible errors being introduced along the way. I am not even going to try to do this with a 40 question assessment. I will just use our LMS quiz module for this, it is very easy, and assigns +credits or -credits very easily to each question. I am surprised, and frustrated, that this does not work automatically with Storyline. Seems to me that this functionality should just be added. It does not make sense that if someone chose 3 of 4 answers correct in a multiple response question that they should get no partial credit for the correct responses. I am baffled. At least I have a easier solution for this in our LMS.
For someone who is new to creating questions in Storyline this is quite complicated! It would make life so much easier if the multiple response question allowed you to put points against each answer.

FYI: Disguised multiple-choice questions could also be used to track answers to types of questions that can't be graded by Storyline. For example, if a question needs to evaluation multiple text-entry answers. Or for situations where more than one answer is correct, but the user only needs to pick one (as described in this post: TIP: Create a "Pick One" Question with Multiple Correct Answers - Articulate Storyline Discussions - E-Learning Heroes).
