Tracking video viewing?
A client would like the ability to track who watched (and how much) a training video that I'm incorporating into Storyline for them. No quizzes; the video is the main feature.
Is there a way to do this?
Hi Eileen!
Are you adding your videos as embedded web content in Rise? Since embedded videos are viewed outside Rise, there isn't a way for Rise to track if the user completes the video.
I'd recommend downloading a copy of your video so that you can add it directly into Rise using a Multimedia > Video block. This way, you can use a continue block to make sure your user completed the video before moving forward with the rest of your course.

Thank you! I’ll try that.

Hi, Lauren! I have a related question. I'm using one of the pre-built courses you provide in Rise (which are awesome, BTW!) and it contains an inserted video. I have created a continue block as you mention to make sure the video is completed before moving on - however, I can't seem to figure out how to restrict the learner from just scrolling quickly to the end of the video. Any ideas are appreciated!

Wait! I just saw there is a an "Allow forward seeking" setting that I can uncheck in the edit section of the video.
WOO HOOO!!!!

Do you use an LMS ?
with an LMS you easily identify WHO watched the content and How Much. You can even say When !

6 years later, I have the same question. I set the Rise settings to restrict the usage path to be in order. Within my LMS, there don't seem to be any settings to track whether a person actually clicked on a video. It seems that once it populates on the screen, the SCORM package fills the circle on the left whether the video is clicked or not.
This seems to be more of a Rise issue than my LMS. Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks,
Eileen

I have the same question as the initial post. I created a Storyline 360 module in which I placed a video. There is just one slide with the video in it. When I published it for LMS, I checked the settings for Complete when the learner has viewed 100% of the slide.
I tested it in our LMS and discovered it marked the module as complete after only viewing a portion of the video. That being said, they technically viewed the whole slide, since they navigated to it. However, they did not view the whole video in the slide. Is there any way to track how much video they watched within a slide? Is there any way for a video to be tracked outside of a slide?

Darin,
You could add a new slide that says "Thanks for watching! You've reached the end of this course." On the previous slide (with the video), disable the Next button until the video completes. This ensures they play the video and gives them feedback that they are done with the course.
Another option: instead of tracking completion via slides viewed, use a Completion trigger instead. Set it to run when the video completes. (Or add an end-of-course slide, as described above, and have it run when that timeline starts.)

"viewed 100%" (in terms of storyline) means: the learner has started 100% of the slides - NOT viewed
you could add a trigger on the video slidewith this tracking options

Thanks for the suggestions. I thought about the trigger and gave that a shot. The problem was that I did not check the 100% slide view option, so that got triggered first. I am going to try again with the slide view option unchecked and the trigger checked.
