Translation for Custom Blocks, Code Blocks, and Text-to-speech

I was just on David's call and these new features in Rise look really great. I can see a lot of possibilities—if I can get them translated.  What are the translation options, processes, and limitations for each of these features?

For example, are text boxes in Custom Blocks included in the XLIFF exports?  What about text in a Code Block?  During the call, David inserted a calculator using a code block.  The calculator had a heading at the top.  How would I go about getting that heading translated?

Finally, if I use the text-to-speech feature, how do I go about getting that text translated so I can generate the speech in other languages? Is it included in the XLIFF file?

I'm loving these new features, but everything I do needs to be translated and I'm trying to avoid creating extra work and opportunities for things to get missed.  Thanks!

    Hi there, I am new to Rise, so sorry for this question - but where do i find the replay to "Davids Webinar"? Where do you hear about things like this?

      Great question, and welcome to the community, RiseBlocks!

      Since you registered for David’s Q3 Feature Release webinar after the live session, you should still receive the replay link by email. GoToWebinar automatically sends the recording to all registered participants about two days after the event, even if you signed up afterward.

      If you don’t see the email, check your spam or junk folder, just in case. You can also browse and register for future sessions by signing in to your Articulate 360 account.

    I love how thoughtfully you’re exploring these new features! You’re right, Custom Blocks, Code Blocks, and Text-to-Speech open up a lot of creative possibilities, especially when you’re building multilingual courses.

    If your account has access to the new Localization features in Rise 360, you can use those built-in tools to manage most translations directly. Otherwise, you can still use the standard XLIFF export/import workflow to translate your course content.

    I’ve started a support case for you so one of our support engineers can look more closely at your examples and confirm the best way to manage translation for each of these new features. They’ll reach out soon to continue the conversation.

      The custom blocks are not being translated with the localization translation. What is the best way to manage the translation? I just tried to replace the custom block text in one of the translated versions but found that it changed the text in the English version as well. I don't want to have to download an XLIFF file for the entire course for one or two custom blocks, so I'm hoping there is a work around?

        I'm experiencing the same issue; the "custom block" isn't translated when using localization. Furthermore, changing the text in any language changes it in all of them; you can't have a different "custom block" for each language.

    What about 'code' blocks? For my experience, It is possible to export the text from Custom blocks in XLIFF file, but not as such with Coded block.
    It would be nice if we just had to apply some html rules to identify text that should be translated, maybe using specific id parameters in tags, or classes...

      Hi ThiMalta! At this time, it isn't possible to export the text from Custom Blocks, but I can see this being something we look into in the future. I've shared this with our team and will report back if we have an update!

    My experiment better than what you describe: I made a course with all the 'custom blocks' (keeping the text for the templates) and I was able to export the xliff file with all the text and import translation.
    This is rather good, but of course there is a limit: In custom blocks we can do whatever we want but the layout won't be responsive to the change of text length. If you translate in a language that uses more words than in English, It will be a problem.
    In general the layout of custom block is not responsive, so it won't fit courses that have to be used both on laptops and smartphones, unless designers had that in mind...

    My question was about code blocks. Indeed for them XLIFF export does not work.

      Thanks for the added detail. You’re absolutely right: text inside custom blocks is included in the XLIFF export, but custom blocks are not fully responsive, which can cause layout issues in translated courses.

      For code blocks specifically, those are not yet included in the translation export, so they do have to be updated manually after import.

      I’ve shared this with our product team so they can consider adding code block support to the XLIFF workflow.
