Trying to replace an audio file with the renamed audio file

Hello,

I have a slide with an audio file we'll call "A". I renamed the "A" audio file from file explorer so that the name is what we'll call "B". However, whether I specify to replace "A" with "B", or delete "A" and insert "B", the audio file name in the timeline remains as "A". I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I've attached 3 files here:

1. 10-5PtEd.wav: this is the audio file I want IN the attached slide.

2.Cardio carelink slide 54.mp3: this is the audio file I want replaced.

3. Audio Issue.story: This is the slide

Thank you in advance!

  • Hello cynthia!

Thank you for sharing the audio links and .story file! I see the same on my end. The audio file, 10-5PtEd.wav, always takes the name, Cardio_carelink_slide_54.mp3. The first step was to see if the behavior was the same on a new slide in the project and it was. Next, I tried to recreate this in a new project, but it worked as expected.

Is it possible that you could recreate this in a new project?

If you'd like to see my testing, I created a short demo!

  • Dealing with this issue, as well. I have a Storyline learning module with, say, 20 different audio files. During the build process, I've updated those audio files multiple times, changed their names, moved them to a different storage location. When I update them in the Storyline file, the content of the audio is updated, but the filenames in both the Media Library and on the timeline do not change.

Here's a screenshot of my Media Library. You can see two audio files named 219.mp3 with different dates, sizes, and durations. The actual filenames are now w01_219.mp3 and w01_220.mp3, but Storyline ignores those names when the files are updated, either via the timeline or the Media Library.

  • On a large project with many moving parts, including layers, on each slide, it's not really feasible to start over with a new Storyline file each time an audio filename changes. Was this issue added to a bug list? Because it seems like a bug, not a feature.

      Hi Mark!

Thanks for sharing the screenshot! Sorry to hear you've run into this setback!

It would be helpful to see a copy of your .story file, as well as the audio files you've been working with. I've opened a support case on your behalf so you can share your files privately. You're in excellent hands working with our support engineers and they should be getting in touch with you shortly!

We can continue the conversation through your case to keep all information in one spot.

        Hi Steve,

I followed the link you sent along and attached a zip containing the story file and a folder of mp3s.
Thanks for the help in advance.
I'm not blocked in my work, technically. Just worried that I'll make a mistake in the future, or someone else will, because the mp3 filenames in the storyline file don't match reality.
