Variables not displaying correctly

I've created a game that asks 12 questions, which are answered via drag and drop. The list of questions is stored in variables, with the starting question randomized. A week ago, everything was functioning correctly. This week, I opened the file to add content to a different slide and discovered this one is not working properly any more.

The questions are skipping words. The entire question is stored as a single variable.

e.g.

Correct question:

What is used to take notes

In the time between viewings, I updated my Articulate. Currently using Storyline 360 v3.83.31444.0

  • Hello Honey,

    Happy to help!

I'd like to ask a few questions to help clarify your experience.

    • Does downgrading your installation to Storyline 360 Update 82 fix the issue?
    • Is the issue happening to only one variable across the entire project, or are you seeing more variables encounter the same behavior when more variables of the same nature are added to the course?
    • Does decreasing the length of the text that is stored in the variable change anything?

Additionally, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

    Thanks for your help,

I won't be able to try a downgrade until next week and may actually need IT to do it, so maybe we can save that step for last.

This is happening to multiple variables within the same slide. Although, all those variables are being passed to the same display variable for reuse. I've also noticed that it's sometimes rendering memories of the prior variable simultaneous to the current variable, making it look rather mashed up. I've confirmed there's only one text box displaying the content though.

I have launched my learning file where I created the template for this as a practice exercise and it's having the same issue.

If I shorten the variable so it fits on one line, then it displays correctly. But if I keep that same short variable and make the box smaller so it's forced to wrap, then it's blanking on every other line, just like the longer ones.

I'll attach the practice file here.

FYI, this is not the only glitch I've experienced since the upgrade, (invisible graphics in the WYSIWYG, timeline affecting wrong objects), it's just the only one that's making my project unusable.

      Hi Honey,

Thanks for sharing a copy of your project file. I tested it on my end and I can confirm that I was able to observe the same behavior. Interestingly, I tested your project on an earlier version of Storyline 360 (Update 71), and the text displayed properly. This most likely means that something was introduced in the recent versions which caused the text inside the variables to not display correctly during preview or publish.

Since you are unable to downgrade your installation, I went ahead and opened a support case on your behalf so we can have our support team take a closer look at the behavior. You're case is in good hands, and someone from our team will be in touch shortly!
