Adult Learning

Hello everyone! I’m looking for suggestions. I’ll be presenting on adult learning to my team, but they already have a strong foundation in the topic. I’d love ideas on how to make the session more engaging and relevant to corporate training.

I’ve reviewed several articles (including Google Scholar), but I’m struggling to find fresh angles—such as interesting insights, misconceptions, or lesser-known perspectives. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

  • Does the presentation have more targeted goals? If they already have a strong foundation, I'm curious what the desired outcomes are.

  • I have the same question as AndrewBlemings- — whats the objective of doing an additional session? Is it a matter of keeping the information fresh, or delving deeper into more complex applications?

Something that I sometimes do in similar scenarios when I need to do some kind of enablement with my team is poll them beforehand and actually ask them what they know about the subject already and what they want to learn. That usually gets me some good ideas!

    Hi Andrew and Noele,

The outcome was to review the content and I was trying to find any information that would be more complex. I've already presented and it went well, although there was nothing new to report. I do appreciate your comments!

When you say they have a good foundation, could it be a session how to decide which adult learning principles to use based on the content and audience sophistication? For example, we're doing a module on Bloodborne Pathogens for entry level new hires. Should this be: Experiential, Transformational, Action, Connectivism, Project Based? How do you decide what kinds of activities to do to reinforce the level of sophistication the learner needs to demonstrate after completing the learning experience? Do we want to change Knowledge, Skills, Behaviors, or Attitudes, what is the best way to do each of those? What would be the implications of different kinds of activities and how would they be perceived by different audiences? You could have the audience provide the examples and work through it as groups and then have them rate/compare which worked best and why.

What's the purpose of the session? This will help the community give more relevant feedback.
