Free Form Answers
Is it possible to have a question that allows the learner to write "free-form text-entry" answer in Articulate 360 or Rise?

Hi Katherine.
Would your 'free-form-text-entry' question need to be graded or validated? The 'Short Answer' and 'Essay' survey questions are capable of capturing a user's response in exactly the manner that you are describing, but it will not validate it as 'Correct/Incorrect'.

How would you achieve this in Articulate 360?

Sorry forgot to add this, if I did an Essay type question, what happens when the User clicks Submit where does the question and answer go to?
Hi there!
Freeform text answers are possible to create in Storyline 360.
One way is to create freeform text entry questions. https://community.articulate.com/series/74/articles/articulate-storyline-360-user-guide-how-to-create-freeform-text-entry-questions
Another way is to create a Survey question, which can be either Short Answer or Essay. https://community.articulate.com/series/74/articles/articulate-storyline-360-user-guide-how-to-add-form-based-questions
To get the results you'd need to publish your Storyline 360 course for LMS and upload it to your Learning Management System to see what answers learners typed. https://community.articulate.com/series/74/articles/articulate-storyline-360-user-guide-how-to-publish-a-course-for-lms
For now, freeform questions are not available in Rise 360 but that would make a great feature request if you want to leave one here: https://articulate.com/support/contact/feature-request. You can however, do a fill in the blank question in Rise 360, as well as several other question types.
Hope this helps :)

Wondering if we can now do the freeform questions in Rise 360? For example, I'd like to ask: What is the problem you are trying to solve? I'd like whatever they enter to be an "acceptable" answer. Is this possible?

Hi People Development! Great question! This isn't a feature in Rise 360 yet, but that would make a great feature request. It's always helpful to know how in-demand a feature is. In the meantime, you could build a text entry question in Storyline 360 and embed it in Rise 360 using a Storyline Block.

Hi Sarah.
My problem with using a Storyline Block for a freeform question is, that Rise reset/reload the block, when you start the lesson title, so no answer is saved, when you return. And nothing is saved to the LMS in the scormpackage, if you e.g. want to have a freeform journal or the student want to save their reflection and continue the course later.
Can this be done in a smart way in Rise?

Hi Dorte! Freeform question types aren't available in Rise. I've logged this as a feature request and we'll update this thread once we make changes that will help!

Hello,
are there any news on this issue? I am having the same problem as descirbed by Dorte.
Hi Jürgen,
When a learner returns to a Storyline block, any text they typed into a freeform slide won't be saved.
While this may not be exactly what you're looking for, check out this learning journal from a fellow community member. It may spark some ideas for you!

Hi, would be really good to get this FreeFrom text box added to Rise 360.
So another 1 vote for the development from here.
