Practice: Visualizing Policy with Rise360
Hi there, I'm Leslie!
I built this microlearning module in Rise360 because I wanted to practice creating a short, visual story with interactive elements from a text-only public policy source.
7 Ways the SAVE Act Would Block Voting Rights
- Government and think tank materials are text-heavy and focus on the process to create the policy or proposal, rather than who the policy impacts and what they either have the opportunity to do, or are now responsible for.
- I wanted to select a topic and source material that I didn't know anything about to keep my decision making to a minimum.
- I think visual storytelling would help people process policies and decide faster if they want to complete the call-to-action.
- I used Flaticons for the icon/ vectors.
- I created two different source attribution pages at the end of the module - one for the source material and one for the icon/ vectors used
I'm unsure how to create a .story file for download. But happy to share anything I can.
Thank you in advance for your feedback and comments on the design, flow, etc. While I believe in this topic and the research behind it, I realize it is political, so I hope I haven't violated and posting rules.
Best, Leslie

Hi Leslie, this course is great. I really like your layout choices and use of the graphics throughout. I go for a similar style :) I think it'd be worth changing the wording in the diamond ring flip card to be more inclusive. It's not only women who may have changed their names through marriage, and marriage isn't the only reason someone may have changed their name.
change to? Name changes: anyone whose name is now different to what is on their birth certificates or passport would need to update those official documents to be able to to vote.Hope this is helpful :)

EmMountainTrain - Yes! Thank you for this suggestion. I was "faithfully" following the source text since I'm not an expert on the issue - it is something I was curious about and wanted to learn more. BUT! As you noted, ppl change their names for other reasons and it's not just/ only women. I am going to expand that section to make it more inclusive. Thanks for the feedback and reminder about inclusion:) - Leslie

LesliePankowski Thank you so much for sharing your eLearning build decisions. 🙌🏾
My team and I are currently rethinking a content-heavy ILT course and considering rebuilding the content (85 slides) into eLearning.
It covers FDA good manufacturing practices and related topics. IF we ultimately go the eLearning route, you've given me some great ideas about handling big text chunks visually.

Thomas, thank you so much for sharing this! I would love to see it if you go the e-learning route. "Handling big text chunks visually" is my "why?" for learning Rise 360 and soon Storyline. We are bombarded with so much information as adults that regardless of your education level or learning style, I believe the value of packaging important information - like food manufacturing practices - is critical for how we work and live with so much "noise." Okay, I'm off my soap box. Thanks again! - L

Thank you for sharing this example, it's great!
I believe your numeric spacers are aligning with the labeled graphic. If so, you could play with the notion to modify the marker icons as the number. Instead of '+', it would show 1-7. Then the item in that graphic, aligns with the same numeric spacer/divider. However, the current formatting made me curious to go back and look at the top. So honestly, as is may be more effective.

Thanks, Jessica! I'm going to explore what you suggested in a duplicate version of this module to practice and have a visual comparison for myself to learn more. My current project - I learn by doing - is a very text-based process guide to help small businesses make sense of some new local government policies. Your suggestion may work well in that project too - it's a course vs. a stand alone module. Thanks again!

Looking forward to your feedback + apologies for the much delayed reply, I am batching work on and off Articulate these days!
Thanks!

Leslie this is amazing!! I added a picture to your post so others can see the work you've done. The spacing of info and consistency across the icons made this approachable, love the call to action you have too.

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! And it was very kind of you to add the picture to the post, I'm still getting used to sharing my work. Sharing other people's work, no problem!
Hi Leslie!
It looks like the link you shared is an authoring link- would you mind sharing the preview link? I'm so excited to see how you've made this notoriously complicated subject interactive!
