Avast anti-virus threat, IDP.Generic, in CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe

May 26, 2020

My Anti-virus software, Avast, blocked Articulate 360 from opening. Here's the message Avast gives:

We've blocked CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe because it was infected with IDP.Generic

• Threat name: IDP.Generic
• File path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Articulate\360\Desktop Application\CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe
• Process: C:\Program Files (x86)\Articulate\360\Desktop Application\CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe
• Detected by: Behavior Shield

I am hoping this is a "false positive" and I should allow an exception, to permit CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe to run. I am using Windows 8.1.  It happens when I try to open Articulate 360 or when I double-click on a Storyline file to open it.  I don't want to permit an exception that will open my computer to Trojans, but in the meantime Storyline won't open.  Have you seen this before?  Thanks!

Hi David,

Thanks for letting me know. We can get all this taken care of :)

My e-mail address has changed, how can I update it?

I can see that the e-mail in your support case is the same one that you're using to login to E-Learning Heroes.

Here's how you can change your Articulate ID email address to another one that belongs to you:

  1. Go to https://account.articulate.com and sign in with your current email address and password.
  2. Enter your new email address in the Articulate ID field, then click Save.
  3. You should receive a confirmation email within a few minutes. Click the link in the email to verify your new information.

To learn more about Articulate ID benefits, see these FAQs.

Note that transferring your Articulate ID to another person isn't permitted by our terms of service.

My anti-virus is blocking Storyline 360 from opening, how can I resolve this issue?

We have reported the issue to Microsoft as a false positive and I believe that they have updated their definition to remove this false detection.

Please download and install the latest Windows updates (if not yet updated), restart your computer then launch the Articulate 360 Desktop App again. Should you continue to experience the issue, working privately with the support team is recommended. You can e-mail support@articulate.com and refer to Case #02291403 to continue your conversation with Shiela with the correct e-mail.

My solution: I needed to uninstall Avast antivirus software, in order to allow Windows Defender to take over my anti-virus function again. Windows Defender is happy with Articulate 360, so my login problem was resolved. It does seem that Avast was giving a false positive, so I am happier just getting rid of Avast, so that Windows Defender could give the thumbs up. Maybe this will help someone else with the same issue. Thanks.

Hi!

I am working in SL3, and files "freeze": I can't continue editing. When I open Windows 10 task manager, "CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe" appears as a process associated to Storyline. I do not have Avast antivirus. Do you know what can be causing this recurrent issue?

Thanks in advance,

Luciana
