How do I get an mp4 video to play on an opening slide without having to click play?

Aug 08, 2021

I am using an mp4 video as the opening of a series of courses I'm building. To avoid having to click the play button to start, I've always added a image of the first frame of the video on the first slide for 1 second. When the timeline ends the trigger moves it to the next slide where the mp4 automatically starts on the start of the timeline on the second slide. To the learner it looks like it's just one video. I built the first course before the latest update and it worked. I published the second with the exact same set up (I renamed the first course and replaced the video) and it didn't work. I tried to publish the first course again and now that one doesn't work. Now it moves to the second slide, the timeline moves but the video doesn't play.

Is there a way to to get a video to play on the first screen without having to click a play button?

Thanks for the help!

Hello Stephanie!

What browser(s) are you viewing the course in? There are a few browsers that started blocking autoplay of media files (namely Chrome and Safari). I've included a couple of links about that below. You can't override the browser functionality, but there are some workarounds.

Hope that helps and good luck with your course!
