In this video I’ll show you step by step how to set up a countdown timer in Storyline with triggers only and no javascript. This countdown timer works throughout your whole Storyline project.
See the outcome in the image below and watch my video to set up your own countdown timer:
Thanks, this works very well!! The only issue is that you can't have any other layers on the slide because it will hide the timer layer. If you are not using layers this is a great option!!
Thank you for sharing, Mark. Based on your idea I created my own version with a nature video playing in the background. I display the timer during breaks in online training sessions.
Hi Mark, this might be a silly question but how do I make it stop? 😅 I followed the tutorial exactly as how you did in the video (very helpful) and right now there are two things I wanted to happen but couldn't find the right way:
1. Make it stop when it reaches 00:00 (mine continues on to negative)
I know this discussion is 2 years old, but I have the same question as Aya. It see that no one answered unfortunately.
Another issue: I am creating a custom timer in Storyline 360 following Mark's tutorial. I was able to add the "subtract" option for Seconds, but I don't get all the other options for my Minutes variable. It only allows me to Set the value.

Excellent video!!!! I NEVER would have figured this out! THANKS!!!!!!
I'm glad that this was able to help you as well, Shavonia. Thanks for chiming in and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
This works well provided you don't need to show any other layers, as noted above.
The timer text still shows but the countdown freezes and doesn't resume even if you close the layer.

Will the "Reset to initial state" slide property also apply to the Countdown Timer?
Hi Aya no the timer works with variables so you have to reset these in order to let the countdown timer work.

Appreciate your help!
Thank you Mark!
HI Mark, I have followed your instructions and it seems to work, however it stops when a slide layer is displayed. Is there a way around that?
