I'm using Articulate 360 and have found that whenever I create a text entry field, the line that says "type your response here" ends up having a scroll bar next to it by default. It doesn't take up more than one line so there shouldn't be a scroll bar, but this has happened every time now since using 360. I've attached a screen grab.
Hi Brian. Yes, I also get the same scroll bar when I create a text entry field that can show multiple lines.
If you are expecting a single line input from the user then you can reduce the height of the text entry field to a single line and that should fix your problem. Let me know if it works for you.
Thanks, Richard. My problem is that I expect the user to enter multiple lines into the text entry field and don't want that little scroll bar to show up at all. When I shrink the entry field down to a single line, the scroll disappears, but that won't work for my needs at the time.
Hi there, Brian. We're investigating a similar issue where a tiny scroll bar is added to the text entry field. I'll need a little help from you to determine if what you're seeing matches what we know so far:
Can you confirm what version of Storyline you’re using? Go to Help > About Storyline. The latest build is 3.13.15006.0.
Did you upgrade this project from an original Storyline 2 file?
Does this issue happen with new text entry fields, as well? In new files?
Are you using a slide size other than the default?
Let me know, and we can work through some next steps!
Hi Crystal. I thought I'd share some info since I also get the same issue.
I'm using the latest build - 3.13.15006.0.
I created a new project and a new text entry field.
I'm using the default slide size (720x540).
The issue appears when I preview and publish to Articulate 360. Tested this on Windows Chrome.
This doesn't happen all the time. Some of the fonts (Arial or Times New Roman) are fine. Open Sans and Calibri seem to create the issue. I haven't tested all the fonts.
Hi Crystal. All of my experiences are the same as Richard's, although I've published to my network instead of Articulate 360. It also appears when I publish for LMS.
Richard, thank you for letting me know that changing the font to Times New Roman and Arial resolves this issue. I tried a few other fonts, besides Calibri and Open Sans, and haven't found any others yet that do not produce the scroll bar. Only TNR and Arial.
Thanks Brian, and Richard for the detailed information.
I was also able to recreate this on a new project, but only with Calibri font. Open Sans worked fine for me. So that adds to the confusion! I'll share my example with our team to look at further and we'll keep you posted here.
I'm also experiencing this issue with all fonts except TNR and Arial (this includes Open Sans and Calibri). Very distracting bug since we use a proprietary corporate font. Looking forward to a resolution on this.
Really sorry you're running into this bug, Meghan! Surprising that you're seeing the problem with all fonts except Times New Roman and Arial. I'd like to add the details of your file to our bug report. Can you help me with a few points?
Can you confirm what version of Storyline you’re using? Go to Help > About Storyline. The latest build is 3.13.15006.0.
Does this happen in a new Storyline 360 file with no other content?
Are you seeing the problem when you preview the slide and after publishing?
Thanks for your response. I checked and I am running the latest version of Storyline. I was originally seeing the issue in courses with other content, but I opened up a blank file and am still seeing the issue. The course I originally saw the issue in had a slide size of 1009x568, but it also appeared in the blank file that had the default slide size of 720x540.
Hello Alyssa. I'm having a similar problem. I'm providing the information you're requesting above:
I'm using Storyline 360 v3.13.15006.0
This happens after I convert a SL1 simulation to SL360. If I create a new text entry field in the converted project, I do not get the scroll bar arrows. The disadvantage is I don't see the cursor after clicking in the new text entry field. I have to click a second time to see the cursor.
I don't see the scrollbar arrows when I publish, just when I preview. After publishing, when typing text in the field, you see just the top half of the text even though the height of the box is adequate. When previewing the project, you can see the text, but the scrollbar arrows are in the way.
I am having the exact same issue. When publishing to my LMS I am getting this little tiny scroll bar in the text entry boxes. Font is Arial which is odd given what others are sharing above. I'm attaching a screen short here. I'll also privately send the file to support. I need to demo this file next Tuesday, sure hope we can resolve this bug by then.
I have three fonts I can use for this project, all of which are licensed: Lulo Clean Bold, Proxima Nova, and Libre Baskerville. I'm experiencing the issue with all three fonts unfortunately, so it makes this feature of Storyline unusable for this project.
Thanks for those details, and I know this has been a tricky one for our team as it's not always reproducible.
With your permission, I'd like to have our team take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it our Support Team privately by uploading here. We’ll delete it when done troubleshooting.
This problem has reappeared in a course that I'm building. I'm using a text entry interaction and while the text does scroll, there is not scroll bar visible to learners.
We have this logged with our team where the scroll bar isn't displayed in a text entry field when using the Modern Player. However, the scroll bar does appear when using the Classic Player. I've added linked this discussion to our bug report so that we can update you when we have a fix.
I appreciate you taking the time to share that you still see this in our latest update!

Hi Brian. I managed to find a workaround.
You can try changing your font to Arial or Times New Roman. I haven't tested all the fonts but there might be more where the issue doesn't appear.
So far I've seen Calibri and Open Sans produce this issue. Let me know if it works for you.

Hi there Bruce,
Thanks so much for chiming in, and I'm really sorry this is plaguing you!
Would you be willing to share your project file with me? Our team is investigating this bug, and the more sample files we have, the better.
You can click here and attach the original Storyline 1 file to a new thread comment. If you'd rather keep it private, click here.

Hi Matthew,
Unfortunately, this happened after I had run today's update. Good thought, but didn't check out.

Hi Wendy and Matthew,
Update 15 of Articulate 360 was released yesterday, and resolved a few items listed here. We'll let you know as soon as we can about the issues discussed in this forum with the tiny scroll bars.
Hi there - wondering if there has been any update with this?
Hello Patrick,
I took a look and this issue is still open with our team, and this conversation is attached so that we can share any updates that we have.
I wanted to share some information on how we define bugs and how we tackle them when they occur.
The issue has been listed for Calibri and Open Sans font. Is this what you are using as well?
Hey Leslie - thanks for the quick response!
I have three fonts I can use for this project, all of which are licensed: Lulo Clean Bold, Proxima Nova, and Libre Baskerville. I'm experiencing the issue with all three fonts unfortunately, so it makes this feature of Storyline unusable for this project.

Hi Everyone,
I am reaching out to share that the issue where a text-entry field would generate a tiny scroll bar has been resolved!
The next step is to update Storyline 360 by heading to your Articulate 360 desktop app and clicking "Update" next to Storyline.
If the problem reappears, please let us know! We are happy to help!
