I am creating a course in Storyline 360 and am having a problem typing text into the Notes box. It is extremely slow, so bad that instead I type into a Word file and copy & paste into SL.
I see that there were a number of issues similar to this in earlier threads but they are all 3-8 years old. Are there any new fixes for this issue?
Hi Nina, I have a similar problem in that When I try to copy/paste text into the Notes box, I place my cursor in the notes box, I can see that it is there, and if I go to paste the text, the text does not end up there. I always have to click inside the Notes box two or three times to make sure my cursor is actually there.
I'm sorry to hear you both are running in a similar snag with typing in the Notes section in Storyline 360. I want to gather more information so that I can report this to my team.
Are you finding this behavior happens in all projects?
Is it specifically with the Notes section in all slides?
Which version of Storyline are you using?
I'll make sure to share this with my team to determine what the next steps are.
I am on an older version of Articulate as I'm awaiting an important bug fix. However, in testing the latest version it appears that the focus will change once I've clicked twice in the Notes section (focus doesn't change upon the first click). This is an improvement from previous versions, as it appears I can reliably ensure the focus has changed upon the second click in the notes section (that was not the case previously).
The issue does happen across all projects. It is only something that seems to happen with the Notes section.
Thanks for sharing some additional details on what you're experiencing. I do not see other reports of issues with the Notes focus, so I'd like to ask a couple of additional questions. You mention that it's not happening in all projects.
Thanks for confirming this is specific to the project you're working on, Kristin! With your permission, I'd like to take a look at the .story file. You can share it privately in a support case. Can you also share which slide is where the lagging occurs?
I'm so sorry, Kristin! I see I misread your reply. Thanks for confirming this issue occurs across all projects in the Notes section.
As Leslie shared, we don't see this behavior in Storyline 360 (Build 3.51.24979.0). Are there any similarities across all of your projects like Slide Masters or images?
I don't think so, but I was only briefly able to test this in the updated version of Storyline. Once I'm able to test it more fully I will open a ticket if needed. Thank you!
Sorry to hear that you are still encountering issues when pasting text into the notes section. I did a quick test on my end to see if I could replicated the behavior, but I was unable to do so. Here's a recording of how fast text is pasted into the notes section of my installation:
Since the behavior that you are experiencing is different from mine, try the following to see if they help:
Thank you Joe. The title of the issue in this thread is a little misleading - the slowness was reported by the OP, and I piled on with a different problem. The problem is that when I click in the notes box, the focus does not shift to the notes box, so when I paste text it ends up on the screen. I have to click twice and sometimes more than that to ensure the focus is actually in the Notes box. This is not something that would translate well into a video, and in the big scheme of things it's annoying but not a showstopper so I don't intend to open a ticket. But thank you for looking and for your response!
Is there any update on this? We have experienced the delay using the Notes panel on all projects using the Modern Player. We have noticed that the issue does not seem to occur in the Classic Player.
You can check out my earlier post here which explains some things that you can check to help troubleshoot the performance behavior that you're experiencing. If the issue persists, reach out to our support team by opening a case for further assistance.
I have the same issue with the notes. It is laggy to the point where it affects my productivity. I just submitted a ticket, but will attach a sample .story file here.
Thanks for submitting a case with our support engineers! I see that you're working with Mick on your issue. You're in great hands! He will continue to work with your file and hopefully get you a solution!
I'm sorry to hear that you're also experiencing slowdowns when using the Notes panel in Storyline 360. I'm happy to work with you to figure out what could be causing that!
I have a few clarifying questions to help me better understand your setup.
Uninstalling and re-installing could be a workaround but would rather use as a last resort because we are not admins on our machines and not allowed to install software. We'd have to go back into the IQ queue for a fix.
Version 3.67.28569.0
See attached screenrecording. This is a new project, blank slide. I just tried typing some notes and then deleting what I wrote. It was very laggy and took forever to just try and delete. We've been copying and pasting from Word but if you have an edit to a slide you have to click the Notes, wait, find the text, wait, then make the edit, and wait. It's almost unusable.
Thanks for the additional information and screen recording! I definitely see the lag you are experiencing. The first troubleshooting step here would be to update Storyline 360. If the issue persists, you can reach out to our support team here for further assistance.
Everyone on my team experiences the same issue. This issue started with the use of the Modern Player. Switching to Classic player seems to rectify the issue, but certainly shouldn't be the solution! On my team we have uninstalled and reinstalled Storyline several times. My current install is 3.77.30587.0.
I'm so sorry to hear that you and your team have also been experiencing input delay when typing in the Notes section of Storyline 360! Thank you for sharing the extra information and troubleshooting steps you've implemented so far.
I've opened a support case on your behalf so our support engineers can take a closer look into the issue. You're in great hands working one on one with them and should be hearing from them shortly!

I took a look, using Build 3.51.24979.0, and here's what I'm seeing:
Hi Lauren,
The issue does occur across all projects.
The problem occurs when I go to copy and paste information from the page to the Notes section.

Hi Kristin, were you able to find a solution for this? This has been happening to me since day one of using Storyline.
I was not able to find a solution. I just click several times in the Notes box to make sure the focus is actually there before I paste.

Hello! Our team has a problem with Notes in the modern player, as well. It's super laggy.
Is there any update on this? We have experienced the delay using the Notes panel on all projects using the Modern Player. We have noticed that the issue does not seem to occur in the Classic Player.

Thanks for reaching out!
Was there a resolution to this? We are also having issues with the notes lagging (terribly!) in the Modern player.
Hi Jessica!
I'm sorry to hear that you're also experiencing slowdowns when using the Notes panel in Storyline 360. I'm happy to work with you to figure out what could be causing that!

If you would be willing to share a screen recording of the issue, seeing the behavior as it occurs would be helpful!
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Yes, working locally on the hard drive.
