Typing in Notes box is extremely slow
Hello,
I am creating a course in Storyline 360 and am having a problem typing text into the Notes box. It is extremely slow, so bad that instead I type into a Word file and copy & paste into SL.
I see that there were a number of issues similar to this in earlier threads but they are all 3-8 years old. Are there any new fixes for this issue?
Nina
Hello Sarah and Kristin,
Sorry to hear that you are still encountering issues when pasting text into the notes section. I did a quick test on my end to see if I could replicated the behavior, but I was unable to do so. Here's a recording of how fast text is pasted into the notes section of my installation:
Since the behavior that you are experiencing is different from mine, try the following to see if they help:
- Make sure that you are working locally when making changes to your project file. Working on a network drive might cause issues with your project file.
- Do a repair of your Storyline 360 installations to make sure that you are working out of a healthy Storyline 360 installation
If the issues persists, you can reach out to our support team here for further assistance.

Thank you Joe. The title of the issue in this thread is a little misleading - the slowness was reported by the OP, and I piled on with a different problem. The problem is that when I click in the notes box, the focus does not shift to the notes box, so when I paste text it ends up on the screen. I have to click twice and sometimes more than that to ensure the focus is actually in the Notes box. This is not something that would translate well into a video, and in the big scheme of things it's annoying but not a showstopper so I don't intend to open a ticket. But thank you for looking and for your response!

Hello! Our team has a problem with Notes in the modern player, as well. It's super laggy.
Hello Jillian and James,
You can check out my earlier post here which explains some things that you can check to help troubleshoot the performance behavior that you're experiencing. If the issue persists, reach out to our support team by opening a case for further assistance.

I have the same issue with the notes. It is laggy to the point where it affects my productivity. I just submitted a ticket, but will attach a sample .story file here.

Hi Steven: Thanks for the fast reply.
Yes, working locally on the hard drive.
Uninstalling and re-installing could be a workaround but would rather use as a last resort because we are not admins on our machines and not allowed to install software. We'd have to go back into the IQ queue for a fix.
Version 3.67.28569.0
See attached screenrecording. This is a new project, blank slide. I just tried typing some notes and then deleting what I wrote. It was very laggy and took forever to just try and delete. We've been copying and pasting from Word but if you have an edit to a slide you have to click the Notes, wait, find the text, wait, then make the edit, and wait. It's almost unusable.

Hi Jessica,
Thanks for the additional information and screen recording! I definitely see the lag you are experiencing. The first troubleshooting step here would be to update Storyline 360. If the issue persists, you can reach out to our support team here for further assistance.

Everyone on my team experiences the same issue. This issue started with the use of the Modern Player. Switching to Classic player seems to rectify the issue, but certainly shouldn't be the solution! On my team we have uninstalled and reinstalled Storyline several times. My current install is 3.77.30587.0.
Hi James!
I'm so sorry to hear that you and your team have also been experiencing input delay when typing in the Notes section of Storyline 360! Thank you for sharing the extra information and troubleshooting steps you've implemented so far.
I've opened a support case on your behalf so our support engineers can take a closer look into the issue. You're in great hands working one on one with them and should be hearing from them shortly!

Hi James: Can you keep us posted on the solve too? Given that this has been occurring across organizations for over two years, I'm curious if there's a solve. Clearly upgrading has not rectified the issue.
Hi Jessica,
I took a look at James' support case and it looks like troubleshooting is still on going and the support agent handing the case has requested for sample project files for testing. We recommend opening a case with our support team here as well so we can also check if the behavior you're experiencing is specific to a project files or is being caused by something else.

Hi is this ever going to be fixed? Or are we just going to keep pretending that you're collecting information and researching?
Hi Tomer!
It sounds like you're also experiencing input delay when typing in the Notes section of Storyline. Sorry to hear that, but I'd be glad to assist!
Testing the behavior on my end (Storyline 360 ver. 3.80.31058.0 via Windows Parallels on a Mac M1) I did not observe any input delay.
If you've confirmed that you're working locally, and performing a repair of Storyline doesn't solve the issue; I'd be happy to take a closer look at your project file! If you're comfortable, please share a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case.
We'll delete it from our system as soon as troubleshooting is complete!

Hi Steven, I'm wondering if we have been able to be clear on these forums about what we're experiencing, which could be why you aren't able to replicate the issue. I can tell you that what I experience isn't a time lag (others may have different experiences). What happens for me is that I click into the Notes area and start typing, and nothing happens. I have to click in that are multiple times (usually more than 2x) before the area will recognize that I've changed focus from the main screen to the notes area.
Is what I just described different from what you've been testing? Unfortunately, most of us aren't software developers and don't have the correct language to express the problem. Maybe something along the lines of "Notes area does not respect mouse click/shift in focus to that area on first click."
There is no good way to show this via video, or I would have made one already. Although a small issue, it can wreak havoc multiple times per day.

Yep... I am getting the exact same lag. It is very frustrating. Here is a sample. Work your magic and please find a solve.
