🎨 New in Storyline 360: Toggle Closed Caption Text Shadows

We’ve heard from authors that certain color combinations for closed caption text and backgrounds can look… well, rough. Especially when the default text shadow is doing its thing.

So we added a simple toggle that lets you turn caption text shadows on or off. The attached gif shows where to locate the new shadow toggle in the "Colors & Effects" tab of the Player Properties dialog.

If you’re using the default white-on-black captions, you probably won’t notice a difference. But if you’re customizing caption colors for style or branding with, say, light blue text on a light gray background, you’ll definitely see it. Shadows can make those combos look blurry or muddy, and now you’ve got full control over that.

Of course, color contrast isn’t just about aesthetics. Good contrast is key for accessibility, and some of the combos that look bad with shadows also don’t pass a11y contrast checks. But we want to give authors the flexibility to meet their stakeholders’ style and color requirements while keeping courses as accessible as possible.
