Accessibility: Font size in Storyline 360
Hi,
I wonder if anyone in community or Articulate staff know why does Articulate guideline for accessibility state a 12 points minimum font size, when clearly the font size in Storyline is not true to size in comparison to web design, or designs in any Adobe tools.
Here's the link to Articulate guidelines:https://access.articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-360-How-to-Design-an-Accessible-Course
Screenshot of the content:
I find that this is misleading. A 12 point font size on a 960x540 slide dimension in Storyline, looks way out of proportion. Especially also when W3C doesn't really specify a minimum font size in their official guidelines.
Unless maybe there's something I don't know, or an unknown trick to make the font size is true to size in Storyline, please enlighten me!
Thank you!

Hi LinWong-a312185 what you have to be conscious of with Storyline is that it scales in size depending on the available screen size. If you define a font-size of 12pt, and the Storyline file is always seen at least at 100% of the authored size, then you can be confident that users will always see a font size of at least 12pt.
Here's an exaggerated example of where that can go wrong. Let's say I develop a course in Storyline and define my normal text as 12pt font size. The dimensions I set on my project are 2048x1536, but the most common desktop size in my organisation if 1024x768 (50% of my project size). When people view the module on their device, they are seeing the font at 6pt rather than 12pt as the Storyline height/width are scaled to fit the users device which is 50% of the authored size.
To ensure your users are seeing the font at the appropriate size, ensure your initial project has dimensions that support the target environment.
Storyline scales content proportionally and is not responsive (like Rise).
Hello LinWong-a312185,
You are correct. There isn't a specific font size recommendation, but a 12 point is typically the best practice recommendation, which is what we've shared.
1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) defines the contrast ratio for text, with an exception for large-scale text and W3C does define this font size as 14pt or 18pt and these are defined as roughly 120% or 150% of the default size for body text, which comes out to 12pt.
Since you may not be sure what dimensions your learners are viewing your course on, be sure that you are using accessible text and instruct your learners in how to toggle this if needed.
