Anyway to recover corrupted files?
I was on my way to a meeting, saved and shutdown. When I opened back up at my meeting, the file said, "either corrupt or created in an earlier version of storyline. Any ideas on how I can open. My last back up was 3 days ago, and I'm losing a ton of work if I can't open this somehow.

Really sorry that happened, Robert. I'd recommend sending our support team your .story file to see if there's anything they can do. You can upload it here.

Well, I don't think so there is any way to repair a corrupt backup file. But one can recover data from it. You need to go for a third-party program for BKF recovery. I have read an article last evening n Ezine Articles. Let me link you this: article. Read this article and see and if you can fix it or not.
Good luck.

if you are using dropbox to store files you can get a previous version. Also if you are using windows 7 you should be able to get a previous version.

Hi
I have just hit the same problem. I had made some changes to a file and saved and closed it - when I try to go back into it now it indicates it has been corrupted or created in an earlier version.
Could I upload this to your ftp to see if someone can have a look at the file - it is just over 43mb. I currently do not have another copy of this file - my IT dept are not sure whether they can retrieve it.
With thanks
Cath

Sure thing, Cath. Go ahead and send it to us on the second page of this link and we'll see what we can do.
And please be sure that you're working on and saving your content to a local drive to avoid corruption, loss of work, and other erratic behavior.

Hi Peter - thanks for the reply - our IT dept has managed to restore a previous version so I will just re-edit this. Note that this was on my local drive/laptop.
Cheers

Hey Cath!
That's great! Really glad to hear your IT team was able to find something for you to work with, though I do apologize that it happened in the first place. Good luck finishing up the project!
Hello Hannah - This thread is pretty dated and Peter has another role here at Articulate. We do not have any more power than you do and cannot recover corrupt files.
There may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:
1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.Hope that helps :)

Hello Leslie,
I want to ask a few questions about this.
I understand that Articulates "Back Ups" periodically the files that you mention above. Can you explain how is it done? Can I customize the backing up?
Until now I had no idea that these files existed so I did manually my back up. I notice that the files weight the same as the "Original" files so when are the files that you mentioned above deleted? they occupy a big amount of space in my hard drive so how can I manage that?
Thank you.

Hello! thanks for the tips. I ran into the same problem and submitted my file for recovery but then saw this option. I'm on Window10 and don't see this folder. Is there another folder that it may be in?
