Attempting to recreate the Rise Sorting Activity in Storyline

I'm attempting to recreate the Rise Sorting Activity (card drag and drop) in Storyline. Unfortunately, I have too many characters/word count to use the Rise template.

I'd love some suggestions. I'm having difficulty with getting the drop correct state and drop incorrect state to function in a similar manner as the Rise interaction.

Drop Correct: I'd love the card to slowly shrink a bit smaller, add the checkmark, and then slide down and disappear. It doesn't appear I can do any of those things. I've given up on having the card slowly shrink.
I've tried the animation options many times. I can't figure out how to get the Exit animation to work on the drop correct state (or any state really) to allow the card to slide down similar to how it works in Rise.

Drop Incorrect: I can't figure out how to get the card to shake and return to the original position. Storyline doesn't allow motion paths in states.

Any suggestions? Just trying to problem solve some options here before I give up and just stick with some basic transitions...

Here is the project in review mode. I inserted it in a Rise lesson with the rise block activity & my interaction to make the comparison easy.

This is the closest I could get to recreating the Rise Sorting Activity in Storyline based on the original post. It involves using motion paths and variables to coordinate the animations and interactions smoothly.

Would you be willing to share your storyline file? or give a little more detail on how you set this up?

  • Hello Nedim, I was looking for this exact solution, so thank you for sharing it. I have limited Storyline experience, so after opening the file, I couldn't make the changes as per my requirements. Since I am working on a very tight deadline, I do not have the time to learn and work on the file. Can you please help me?

Instead of selecting the images, I need text boxes. There are 8 text boxes to be selected. Rest everything has to be same. I can fill in the actual text later.

      Hi viveksinha-1bb8

Sorry for the delayed response. This was more of an experiment and a personal challenge to recreate a sorting activity in Storyline, similar to the one in Rise. It's quite complex and time-consuming. It would take significantly more time, even for me, to build this interaction with 8 drag objects on top of the two that have already been created. I understand that your knowledge of Storyline might be limited. This interaction involves many motion paths, variables, and state changes, all of which require a great deal of experience to work with and make fully functional. It takes a lot of practice and time. Many of us here are sacrificing our time to help each other by creating examples, offering solutions, and solving issues. And deadlines are just something we deal with on a daily basis. The key is to set aside time to dive deeper into the Storyline environment. Focus on one specific area at a time and move on once you feel confident enough to tackle the next. I’m more than happy to help, but I need to see some effort on your end. If you could at least try to recreate the interaction—create a mockup, set up some graphics, and try a few motion paths—I'd be able to step in and guide you in the right direction or even help fix any issues. I hope you understand that I can’t build your project from scratch for you, as I have other commitments as well. A friendly piece of advice would be to visit the following resources, as they are a great starting point for tackling the techniques used in this interaction:

Yes I understand Nedim. Because of my limited knowledge, I thought if one knows how to create 2 it wont take much time to create 8 but I was clearly wrong. Thanks for the explanation and sharing the resources. I will go through them and figure out what I can do. Thank you!

I was looking for solutions to the same problem. Inspired by answers in this thread, I have created my  own version of the card-sorting activity. I used states and motion paths (no variables) to create a similar animation effect in Storyline. There are two templates: one with all the cards on the same slide (you need to go to settings to set up the order of the cards showing up) and one with each card on  a separate slide (you need to sequence the slides in the order that you'd like the cards to appear).

In both templates, I have designed for two, three, and four target areas (in seperate scenes). So they should be very easy to be adapted to your project. All the cards are text-based, but if you want to have images, it's pretty straightforward just to replace text boxes with any images you want.
