Audio not working during Preview
Audio won't play when previewing content? Its making it really difficult to time the animation of objects. The audio on my system is fine and this feature was working until this morning (I finished up a course just last night). It works just fine when in editor, also works when published. Things I've done:
- I'm working of my c:
- Uninstalled SL2, reinstalled it - no luck
- Deleted the audio, inserted new audio - no luck
- Followed the advice of the most recent post on the issue I could find

Another place to look is the Volume Mixer when you have Storyline open. Sometimes the mixer for Storyline gets muted for some reason.
Sounds like experience talking Kris :)
Thanks for popping in to share.

Hi there, I tried to do the above troubleshoot that George posted but it's still not working for me for Preview - sound is not on. However audio clip and published output works fine. I can play the audio clip on its own and the I can hear sound in the published output. The audio for preview just isn't working for me. Is there a workaround? Thanks!
Hi Lesley and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks for contacting us and sharing what you are experiencing with your project.
- Does this happen with any project you are working on or just this one?
- Are you previewing via the timeline preview or the course preview button?

Hi Leslie, I tried both and both doesn't play sound. Is there any other solution?

Hi Lesley,
I am sorry that you are not able to hear the audio when previewing the timeline and course. Does this issue also happen in a new file? If so, there might be a couple of things to consider here:
- A repair of Storyline 360 can sometimes clear up these issues. You can find more details on how to do this here:
- if the repair doesn't help, following the suggestions outlined in this guide should help:
Please keep us posted and let us know if you continue to hit any snags!
Hi Dakota,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulty with your software. If Storyline 360 isn't working properly, a simple repair usually fixes the problem.
Let us know how that works for you.

I faced the same problem today. The only thing that worked for me was to turn the audio compression to (none) instead of (automatic).
Hi Haneen!
Sorry to hear you are also experiencing this snag with audio not playing when previewing a Storyline 360 course. I'd be happy to help!
I just had some clarifying questions first. Before turning down the Audio Compression, had you implemented any of the other solutions offered earlier in the discussion? Such as:
- Performing a repair of your Storyline 360 application?
- Reconfigure the speaker settings for audio output on your computer?
Thanks for reaching out and sharing a workaround you found success with! I'm sure other users discovering this thread will find the information very useful!

Hello Steven, thank you for your reply.
And I am sorry for being late in responding.
Yes, I have tried them both before changing the audio compression.
No worries, Haneen! Thanks for getting back to us when you were able to! It's always helpful to share workarounds in the community for others to learn and grow.
Hope that you have a wonderful afternoon!
