Audio volume too low when published in Articulate Review
I just spent a week recording narration for a module. It sounds fine on my headset. Even sounds fine when I preview it within Storyline 360. But when I published it out for review, the sound volume is so low, you can’t hear a thing and I have my volume maxed out. I tried maxing out the volume using the audio editor and the audio volume slider. How do I fix this without having to re-narrate the entire module? Why is it doing this and how do I prevent it in future projects?

Great call to open a support case where I see you're already working with my colleague, Angelo. Be sure to let us know if his recommendations helped and if you have any questions. We're all here to help! 😀

Hi! I have the same problem as Jonathan. I have a bounch of videos in my production and the volume of some videos is lowerd and have poor audio quality. It happens on slides where videos is on layers (slides with only one video works fine). When I prewiev in storyline it works great but on rewiev and on my LMS it doesnt. I have tried to rebuild the slide , replace the videos and change videos but still it wont work. Can someone bring clarity to me and help me solve this issue. :-) Thanks!
Yikes! I'm sorry to hear you're also at this roadblock, Janine.
I'm happy to work closely with you to sort what's happening with the audio. A few questions to help us dig deeper:
- Have you tried increasing the Audio Quality Settings when publishing to see if that makes a difference?
- What browser(s) are you using to view the published output?
- Would you mind sharing a slide or two with me so? I'll run some tests in a similar environment, and will delete it after troubleshooting. You can send that Storyline file to me privately in a case here.

Hi Katie!
Thanks for your support :-)
I have tried increas the Audio Quality, but nothing have changed.
I have tried the course in Review 360 on Firefox, Chrome and Edge. The same problem appeares in different browsers. I have tried the course in our LMS on Edge, same problem appeares.
I will send you the Storyline file and hope you will find whats wrong.
Best regards, Janine
Good morning, Janine!

Hello again :-)
I solved the issue with bad audio quality after many hours of trouble shooting ;-) The issue occured when Storyline 360 converted stereo sound to mono sound. (I pre edited some audiofiles to stereo in Adobe audition and these where the ones not function correctly). So I edited the audiofiles back to mono, exported new videos and now it works great! :-)
Greetings, Janine!
Appreciate you circling back to share your findings with the community, and high five to you for tracking down a solution! I'll share this update in the case, too. 😊

I wanted to chime in on this as I recently encountered the same issue.
I was able to eliminate all the possible causes/fixes mentioned above (and in other posts):
stereo-mono; audio quality setting not enough, volume boost inside SL, or using Adobe audition, etc.
But nothing worked.
I then realized I could manually substitute the converted mp3 file with the original WAV file. This solved the issue. If your case involves not many audio files, this would be the ultimate solution for ultimate quality. But know that once you done that, better not to go back and make small changes and then republish as it will override your files.
I was ready to do this manual process until I gave it a last try. And then I discovered that the check box "optimize audio volume" is actually the culprit. You need to give it max bit rate with this option UNCHECKED.
I hope my experience is helpful for all of you there having the same problem.
In the meantime, I wanted to point out that some of the support folks are clueless on this--nice folks no doubt, but clueless nevertheless. The dev team needs to look at what is being done at the wav-mp3 conversion and offer an option to keep the audio files intact.

I'd like to chime in as well. We were having issues with mp3 audio files playing back at low volume in Rise despite sounding fine prior to uploading. Swapping for wav files solved the problem (I simply exported the same project file from Audacity as a wav)

HI,
I am having the same issue. The voice over (VO) is softer than the video. When I use the optimise audio volume, the VO gets cut off and it hangs. I adjusted the video quality and the audio quality setting but it does not work too. Anyone has issue similar to mine and found any solution?- BeccaLevanCommunity Member
Thanks for reaching out, Melor!
I'm sorry you're experiencing this—we're here to help!
- Are you experiencing this behavior during preview or after publishing? Are you publishing the course to Review 360?
It would be helpful to share your file in a support case for testing purposes so one of our support engineers can dig in deeper. We'll reach out with an update soon after!

Thanks for offering to help. I experience it after publishing it and when I upload it into my Workday LMS. The volume is lower when using Android phone. I have tried to play around with the setting but still it produces low volume. Is there any setting that I have to take note for accessing from mobile?
