Base layer text showing up on other layers
I have just started having this issue that when I place text on the main layer and have it fade in by paragraph, then go to the layers and make the whole text box hidden on each layer, everything works fine until...I change the timing of when a paragraph of text is to appear on the main layer (for example, needing to align it with the VO). When I change the timing, the text is no longer hidden in the other layers, and I need to go into each layer and rehide it. I can understand how adding a new paragraph would cause this, but just making a fine adjustment to the timing should not.
Thanks for any input.

From my perspective, "make the whole text box hidden on each layer" leaves out a fair amount of information. Can you share a project file? Maybe an animated gif? A screenshot of a trigger? Because maybe the way you're hiding things relates to timing?

BarryHollembeak : I couldn't replicate that issue.
When you animate in by paragraph, SL treats each paragraph like a separate object in a group.
I hid such a text box on a layer by deselecting the eye (show/hide) icon for the entire text box. That deselected it for each paragraph (as shown in the image above).
I then adjusted the starting points for the paragraphs. But they remained hidden on the layer.
Bottom line: What you're describing is "unexpected behavior."
Here's what the staff would likely say: Be sure you're working from a file on your local hard drive. Try closing and relaunching Storyline to see if that helps. If that doesn't help, try reinstalling (Storyline 360: How to Fix Unexpected or Erratic Behavior ).
If all that fails, submit a case directly to the Articulate staff. You can do that here: https://access.articulate.com/support/contact

You can hide the entire Base Layer on other layers by clicking the Gear icon on the layer(s) to open the layer settings dialog box and select Hide object on the base layer checkbox.

Thanks all for your replies.
Apparently, I am the lucky one to get to experience this. I have the IT guy coming to check out my computer for any issues.
Here is what is happening. I have the main layer text hidden in the subsequent layers:
I then go back to the main layer and change the timing of the paragraphs appearing to match the VO. When I go back to the layer, it shows this as if the text is hidden:
When I expand the Text Box, this shows:
I do not see the eyes of the paragraphs unless I expand the text box. I catch this when previewing the slide, and the layers show overlapping text from the main layer.
For now, I am checking the "Hide objects on the main layer" then inserting the elements that I originally wanted to carry over from the main layer (illustrations, slide title, buttons, etc.).
Again, thanks to those who responded.
Hello BarryHollembeak,
I see that you've opened a support case regarding the behavior you're experiencing in your timeline. You're in excellent hands with my colleague Genelyn. They'll be in touch shortly via email. We'll continue the conversation over in your case, so everything is in one spot.
