Try again and Incorrect Layers not showing.

Hi, I am sure this is going to be obvious but I can't see where I've gone wrong. I have Trya again and Incorrect layers showing in the slide layers and the Player triggers and Object triggers are all showing, but for some reason when you review or publish the simulation and miss the hotspot, theses layers do not appear. What am I missing?

Base Layer - Player trigger - Submit Hotspot, when user clicks submit

Try again - object trigger - Hide this layer this layer, when the user click Try Again

Incorrect - object trigger - Hide this layer this layer, when the user click Continue.

                                            - Jump to slide Net slide when the user clicks Continue.

Thanks

Hi helloatccw. Do you have any triggers in your base layer to show the Try Again and Incorrect layers? I ran into a similar issue because I thought layers automatically showed, but I found out I had to trigger the layer to show and then trigger it again when I wanted it to hide. I solved this by adding a "show layer X when the timeline starts on this slide" trigger.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you want certain layers to appear when the user clicks on a certain button in the base layer? If so, you would set the object trigger in the base layer to Show layer X when user clicks Y.

Hi, yes I think you are right. For some reason, when you create a Test in storyline it creates these layers and the triggers, however because we pasted them in from another course those triggers are not there. So yes I think you are right I will have to create them.

  • There's no need to add triggers to show the feedback layers of a graded question slide.

When Feedback is set to By Question, the Submit__ trigger automatically shows the Correct or Incorrect layer based on the user's answer. (This is the default when you insert a new question slide.)

When Attempts is set to a number >1, Storyline automatically adds a Try Again layer. The Submit__ trigger automatically shows the Try Again if the user answers incorrectly but hasn't used up their attempts. If there are no more attempts allowed after an incorrect answer, the Submit__ trigger shows the Incorrect layer.

helloatccw : Be sure your slide is set to show feedback, and be sure the Attempts field is set to the desired number that is >1.

If the problem persists, well, further troubleshooting is just guessing without seeing all the programming. Someone might be able to solve the issue if you upload the .story file. Here are the best practices for doing that:

    • Only include slides that are related to the problem.
    • Be sure objects, layers, motion paths, and variables have meaningful names.
    • If there is proprietary content, replace or delete it. For example, replace proprietary text with “ipsum lorem” text.
