Buttons w/ Audio - How to Avoid Overlap
Hello,
I have a slide set up with six buttons. Each button has a trigger that when clicked audio plays in regards to that button. However, the viewer could click each box at the same time and have all six audio recording play over one another. How can I restrict viewers to only listening to one audio at a time?
I currently have the timeline equal to the length of all the audio files combined to prevent the viewer from moving on. But ideally they would have to listen to all six files before clicking next.

You can set up triggers that will stop media when user clicks on another button. However, there may be a quicker/easier way to do this. Will be watching to see what others say. In the past, I have done just what I said - set up a trigger that will stop say media 2,3,4,5,6 when user clicks on button 1. I will say that if you use markers, SL stops others from playing when new ones are clicked on.

Hello Helen,
In order to make sure that the audios are not overlapped with one another, I suggest enabling "Hide other slide layers" option. You can find this option by clicking on the settings icon that can be found at the bottom right just below the base layer by selecting the desired layer/all layers.
In this way viewer can choose any button and listen to the audio related to that button. Also if you have an audio present in the base layer, enable "Pause timeline on the base layer" option. With this option, if viewer clicks on a button while an audio is playing in the base layer, it pauses the base layer audio and lets the viewer to listen to audio that plays in regards to that button. Upon closing that particular layer, the base layer audio continues from that point where the viewer left.

Thank you! Since I already had the slide fully created I opted to add additional triggers to stop media. Next time I will have it open to a new layer.

Glad to hear that you found a solution.

Helen - did you ever find a quicker solution for this? I too run into the same issue with using buttons and its tedious having to create triggers to pause audio every time something else is clicked.

Just a thought. You could group all the buttons in a button set and include audio in the selected state of each button. This would automatically play the audio for the selected button only and stop (not pause) the audio when the button is deselected. When another button is clicked, the previous audio would stop, and the new audio would play. This way, you wouldn’t need to create additional triggers to manage the audio state.
