Can I slow down the audio voice selected in Storyline 360?
I am using one of the audio voice pre-loaded in Storyline 360 and it seems they are all speaking very fast. Is there a way to slow their speech?
Hi, everyone!
I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 83, we've included important fixes and new features!
One of the new features we've included:
- Unlock new possibilities for text-to-speech audio. Use speech synthesis markup language (SSML) to adjust the speaking rate, modify pronunciation, emphasize words, add pauses, and more.
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you need additional help!
Yes! That is part of the feature request, Terry.
I'm a 1.5x-2x on audiobooks and podcasts myself :)

Adding my name to this thread as i am not aware if this is resolved, i dont think so, and want updates too. This is not just a preference issue, it is also an accessibility issue for many learners. We need the following things:
1. developer ability to adjust speed of text to speech as a whole (like other say, adding punctuation only helps with that instance, the person as a whole needs to slow down)
2. give a player option so the consumer/learner can adjust the speed faster or slower (like they do in YouTube)
3. is there a phonetics dictionary we can have for pronunciation? this is especially important for names and uncommon words. right now i guess at phonetic spellings and try multiple different spelling options (10-15 in a recent case) to find one that sounds closer to what we need
I always provide the transcript for my learners, but some still complain about the speed even though they have transcript available with same content.

Keep in mind that for now this is only an update for changing the speed of embedded video in Storyline. All other timed elements ( motion paths, entrance animations etc. ) on the Storyline timeline are not aware of the change of speed.
Also watch that the video control bar now will cover the lower part of your video, before the controls showed below the video, thus covering nothing in your video. And its higher then the old video controls. And this all is only true for the Modern Player, the Classic Player uses the old behaviour as before.- JennyGlenn-d3b2Community Member
Thank you for showing and for clarifying! So this is Not for the actual Storyline module playback itself, only for imported videos iinto Storyline. Well that's nice, but not at all what I'm looking for or need at this point. I really appreciate you letting me know, as I was about to tell my client it was doable, and now I see it really isn't. Maybe in the future? Best wishes, Jenny

This has been a requested feature for several years. Is there a production path for this feature improvement?
Hello Everyone!
I'm happy to share that we have released Storyline 360 version 72 (Build 3.72.29654.0).
Included in this release is a new feature where you can let learners explore at their own pace by choosing a course playback speed between 0.25x and 2x.
Now all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let us know if you have any questions by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.
Have a great day!

Sorry, but you’ve missed the point – AGAIN.
NOT on the play-back end!
Slow it down on the CREATION side: the Text-to-Speech engine!!
You just need a more robust TTS!- JennyGlenn-d3b2Community Member
No need to be rude.
Thanks,
Jenny

Agreed with prior commenters - this is not what was being requested. As the creator of the course, I need the ability to adjust the speed on speech-to-text so it is not speaking too quickly.
This should be something that I can do as the creator, so learners do not have to rewind the course to catch all the information, or try to figure out how to adjust the speech speed (which let's be honest - many can't/won't), or the most likely result - they will simply miss that information.
The course should require no changes on behalf of the learner. I should be doing all of that on the front end and able to make sure the speed is appropriate when I publish the course.
Thank you for this Morgan!
I understand that this discussion is mostly around the capability to adjust the playback speed for TTS voices, but a handful of ELH members in this thread have also asked for variable playback speed on the learner side and this is why we chose to share what Update 72 offers here. Rest assured we are aware that the variable player speed is not a solution to the TTS-related use cases and are still keeping track of folks asking for this.
I will continue to advocate the need to improve TTS functionality on everyone's behalf. Your continuous participation in our community is invaluable in bringing to light the problems that we need to solve.

Agree, this is useful, but it also allows them to double-speed through the slides as well.
