Changing Storyline Modes

Hi,

Is there a way for a user of a course to change between light, dark and custom modes within Storyline? On researching this, I know that the traditional solution is to create different versions within one course, but can this now be done by changing a setting within the player to give the user the choice at that level?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hello Liz_Tyler . You can ask the AI assistant directly (if you have that option), just like I did.

At first, it suggested some JavaScript code... which, of course, didn't work.

So I asked it to check if a solution was possible and existed (I should have started there, obviously), and it replied, “Articulate says no!” (Thanks for giving me code earlier!) “Storyline does not provide a public or built-in API to change these properties dynamically after publishing. Player settings, such as themes (light, dark, custom), must be set before publishing and cannot be dynamically adjusted at runtime,” according to the AI.

If a staff member is reading this exchange, he or she can confirm this.

In any case, when you create a module graphically, you anticipate that it will look its best on a light, dark, or… pink Player, depending on the dominant color theme of your brand guidelines. And that wouldn’t change the visual impact of the module much, since 99% of it is concentrated WITHIN the screen.

If that were possible… I don’t think I’d suggest it to my clients.

The debate is open, of course.

    Best regards.

It does seem a bit silly to have to publish an entirely different version of the course just to offer multiple player styles. It's never really occurred to me someone might do that but it makes sense.

Since browsers themselves offer different color scheme options though, it would improve accessibility of Storyline offered it. Perhaps some learners take our content at night and prefer a darker background.
