Changing the Icon on Hotspots

Hi Everyone!

I don't know if this has been brought up but I have a hotspot question and I'm trying to change the icon to look different. Currently, it looks like a loading page symbol when you click on the answer(right or wrong). Is there a way to change the icon/symbol to either a box around the selection, marker icon, etc. I can;t seem to figure it out.

Any and all help welcome - thanks in advance! :)

  • Hello Natalie, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

This has been brought up before, and we have an open feature request requesting the ability to:

    • Customize Hotspot Selection Marker/Indicator
I wanted to share some information about how we manage these feature requests, which may be helpful. I've attached this conversation to share updates with you here.

Hi Leslie, is there a place where we can vote on getting this feature in place? I see discussions about this going back 11 years ago, and it still hasn't been resolved. Unfortunately, the current hotspot icon is more confusing than helpful.

  • Hi Uliana,

I'm happy to jump in here!

We are currently still tracking this request and logging any comments from customers. I'll add your vote and we'll be sure to update this thread if we have news to share. We appreciate you following up on this!

  • Depending on what's being presented, an alternative is to place 99%-transparent shapes over areas that might be clicked. A shape can have states, so each one could have a Selected state that indicates the general area that was clicked. After adding the shapes, convert the slide into a Freeform Pick One question, and you've basically got a hotspot question with whatever kind of indicator you want.

  • Hi Kelly, please add my vote for making this customizable. I had the same feedback from two customers: "The current icon suggests that something is loading and the learner has to wait for the process to finish."

  • Please revisit this request on the hotspot icon that appears on selection. I am getting constant feedback that it is confusing and looks like something is loading or waiting for something to happen.
Maybe something as simple as just removing the spinning animation but keep the pulse.
    Thank you!

  • Looking for customization / movement on this feature request as well... the icon is too small and without customization, means you can't adhere to your color style. More options would be helpful as well as the current option looks a bit dated. At the very least, you should be able to adjust the color of the icon, but ideally, you could change the animated icon entirely and make your own.

A typical workaround is to create a Freeform Pick One question. You can set up the "Selected" states however you want (with a glow around the entire area, with a checkmark in the middle, etc.).

        Thanks Judy!
I'm my case, I am developing systems training. I like using "hotspot" questions to quiz on which area of the screen/system they perform certain actions.  Using the above solution isn't practical without creating a distractor spot for every clickable item on the screen.  I think the biggest thing/complaint on the current marker, is that the spinning icon seems like the user is waiting on something to happen.  Can you all just make it some kind of pulsing icon instead. A color option would be really nice, but the spinning causes a lot of confusion.
