Copying and pasting content into Rise, ensuring the current formatting in Rise is preserved

I am creating block templates, with predefined formatting (i.e. font size and color). I want to be able to copy and paste content into these templates, while preserving the formatting of the text.

Currently, when I paste content into Rise (using 'Paste as Plain Text') the formatting in Rise gets overwritten, and I have to reformat the text to the size and color that is required. This somewhat defeats my intended purpose of the block template.

Is this issue due to something I am doing wrong?

Or is it not possible to preserve the formatting of the text when pasting into Rise?

    Hi Aimee,

It is not possible to preserve the source formatting of text when pasting into Rise.

Hi Karl, Thank you for the reply! I'm disappointed that's the case but pleased it wasn't something I was doing wrong. I guess the block templates will only speed up development to a certain degree!

        Hi Aimee,

We have created a Block Template for every Rise block type used by our organization. These block templates are styled and formatted to match the visual style guide of our organization.

When we build a new Rise course, we only use blocks from the Block Template library. It saves a lot of time, and also ensures style consistency between team members.

  • I would like to vote for this as a feature request! The request at minimum is to be able to   copy/paste into Rise with bold formatting  preserved.

Hello.  Any update from Articulate on this issue?

    1. It would be really nice to be able to copy anything in Rise, paste it elsewhere and formatting holds.  For example if I made something a specific font, size, and format, then copy it elsewhere, all formatting is lost and I have to repeat all of the formatting over and over, a huge time waste and a huge time saver if fixed.
    2. The same goes for when using the color palette.  For example I use 005195 blue (for the last 4 years) with a client on specific text they want colored.  I have to continually type in that color code whenever I want to use it vs. setting it as a saved color in the palette such as in Storyline, or being able to copy and paste the color and have it hold.  This would save me hours/days of time.

    Thank you!

      Hi Jeff,

What I've done for your item 2, is to create Block Templates from blocks that have the correct formatting and colors applied.

Now when I need to insert a block, I insert the previously formatted  Block Templates, instead of blocks from the regular block library.

Thanks Karl, I do use Block Templates continually, and they are definitely helpful in many cases, but it would be really nice to be able to copy/paste formatting.  I have specific emphasis words that need to be blue all over the place for my client (their brand color), using templates doesn't really help in this case.

Also, in all interactives, you can't use blocks within them.  For example if you have a Flashcard Stack, set one Flashcard the way you like with formatting, it would be great to copy that text to the next Flashcard, however all formatting is lost including color, so you have to redo all the formatting over and over.  A huge time loss.

I would also like to be able to copy entire tables within Rise from one block type to a different block type without losing formatting as well.

I would also like to be able to copy formatted text from within Rise to be re-used somewhere within the same module without losing style/formatting.

At a minimum, it would be really helpful if I could highlight the text and see the HEX for the text, so I can replicate it. Currently, I don't see a way to check the HEX colour for text that already exists within a Rise module.

      Hello Shela,

      Happy to help!

There isn't a built-in tool for checking the HEX color of the text, but you can use your browser's developer tools to get this information. Here's a screenshot of Google Chrome's dev tools detecting the style format being used by a text block.

      Hope this helps!

  • I would love to chime in here, because as an Instructional Designer I am constantly frustrated with how text copies and pastes from/to Rise. My company can't just use pre-made blocks for everything because everyone has their own style and it can vary per department/project.

But my problem is really noticeable when creating assessments.

Why is it that when I copy and paste text from within Rise to another section of Rise, I lose the size of the text and the colors? I am sick and tired of copying 22 point fonts, only to have them paste as size 14. Can we set a course's base text size or something? This process is so tedious and time consuming.

    Thanks!

      Hi Taylor!

Thanks for sharing the feedback! Sorry to hear copying and pasting font in Rise 360 has been such a pain point for you!

By design, all block text in Rise 360 defaults to size 17 font. However, one of our top features requested by customers is the ability to set a font size globally, across all blocks in a course. I've included your voice in the feature report and will share updates if this enhancement makes it to our Feature Roadmap.

        Hello Steve!

Thank you so much for the reply. This is definitely something our company would love to have more control over, it can be quite tedious!

Thank you for the update and I can’t wait to see some “quality of life” updates soon! 😉

        Take care,

        Taylor

  • Honestly, I have so much feedback on improving Rise, but most of it is just simple functionality enhancements and UI changes in the "Edit" mode. Some of the common issues I have:

    - Navigating to block templates is too tedious: When accessing the block template's menu, I'm tired of seeing my co-workers blocks that they accidentally shared with everyone. I would rather the menu go directly to MY templates first (or offer the option). It would also be nice to have a "brand" templates section for official company templates. Also, the block templates have like a 25% chance of actually capturing the image of the block, otherwise, it's thumbnail is always blank.

    - I would LOVE the option to pin the blocks menu to the screen, as it gets really old opening the menu, navigating through the options, click one block, menu goes away. Repeat for all blocks you want. A more productive approach would be to have the block's menu always visible and stop hiding it once you select an option. What if I want to add 6 new section block templates? Guess what...you get to do that process 6 times! That gets old quick lol

    - Editing functions: The pop-up text editing menu you see when clicking on any text (i.e., the menu that lets you align text, bold, italics, etc.) is awful. It is almost always blocked by something, it doesn't offer many options, I can't save colors to reuse (I'm constantly typing in hex codes), etc. Camtasia is a great example of menus that stay in place, but the content in the menu is dynamic.

I could go on, but I know this isn't the place for this...so I signed up for the UI feedback testing groups lol.
