Inserting a text box with the same formatting - Storyline

Hi all, is it possible to insert a text box with always the same formatting. So for example, the same font spacing:

The same line space options:

And the same text box settings:

I know through the slide master, I can at least make the text the right font and size, but it would be amazing that when I create a new text box, it always does the above.

Thanks so much!

  • I suggest creating your own style. Here’s how to create and set a custom text style as the default for text boxes:

    1. Insert a text box with some text content.
    2. Select the Text Style box from the top toolbar and click + Add Style...
    3. Name your new style and click OK to confirm.
    4. Style the text as desired (e.g., adjust font size, color, family, or line spacing).
    5. Hover over New Style and click on Update style from selection
    6. Right-click the styled text box and choose Set as Default Text Box, so the next time you insert a text box, the new style is applied automatically.

  • Hi Rebecca,

You can do a right-click on your text box and choose "set as Default Text Box", should work as you expect.

I'm afraid that didn't work for me. It will change the size of the text, the font and colour etc, but not the changes that I've said above. Any other ideas? Perhaps it is not possible?

  • You may need to insert and then do a format paint, but line spacing sometimes doesnt come across.

You can create a text style which will include your line spacing

  • Here's what I suggest: Create a temporary "storage" scene with a slide that has a text box (and any other special objects) set up the way you want it.

Copy and paste from that slide during development instead of always creating (and reformatting) something new.

  • All of the above suggestions are terrific.  If you are wanting the spacing to be present any time you are using the normal text style, you can edit your text style to that setting. There are some settings that will not be a part of the Text Style, so if you also set your newly designed text box as your default you will be able to address that.  Doing both of these steps should give you what you want.

Thank you so much for the comments everyone - another quick question - how do I edit the 'Text Style' as a few of you have suggested? Sorry if I'm missing something obvious!

Thank you so much Nedim for taking the time to go over this, that's brilliant. It saves the spacing correctly. It doesn't change the box margins, but that makes sense to me now, with everyone's help above. This will save quite a bit of time for me still, so I'm happy!

    Thanks all!
