Editing content in Rise

I am very new to Rise, and editing a course that was prepared by someone else. This isn't working well. Most of the content is fine.

There are lots of Articulate resources on building courses, but I don't seem to have full functionality (or be able to view all functions) when editing course material. I'd really prefer not to start the build again, but am wondering if I'll need to do this. So here's reaching out first...thank you!

For starters, when in edit, the block library appears at the bottom of my screen, so I can't seem to use it for earlier content. I can use it fine to insert things like the standard photos at the end of my content on a screen, before going to the next section (e.g. a quiz). This is all I've got in the area where I'm working (see snips below), no matter what I try.

Some of the videos I've watched show additional on screen functions, e.g. themes, but these aren't visible on my screen. I'm using Edge, which I understand is supported.

How can I use the block library, which appears at the end of my screen view, to edit earlier content, at the top?

For example, I need to remove a dated graphic (a corporate logo) that was copied from a powerpoint presentation that appears at the beginning of every 'slide' on the content.

I also need to add text and photos to the initial heading slide, but there is no obvious way to do this that I can see.

Any specific stepped advice would be very much appreciated.

    Hi Katrina123
Welcome! I hope the following helps. Rise can be a tad frustrating in a few areas.

    Theme
not appearing: It could be a permissions problem, I think that area is (or was, last I used it) restricted to the course owner or course manager. Other things to try if permissions do not apply: Reload the page and/or clear your browser.
Image below shows where "Theme" appears. To change your course image, go to Theme > Cover Page > Edit

Manage Block Settings: The article linked below explains block settings, and includes how to move blocks you create to your desired position within the course.

  • Katrina123: Ange provided good advice. I'll add a few notes.

As Ange said, you may not have permission to edit the Theme. Here's what the User Guide says about permissions:

Be aware that the Theme button only appears when you first open a course in Rise. (It goes away when you are editing a Lesson or Quiz.)

The Block Library appears at the bottom of a Lesson for adding extra blocks there. When you hover over any block, a + sign appears at the bottom of the block. Clicking that opens the Block Library for inserting a block at that point.

The Block Library isn't used to edit existing blocks. To do that, use the buttons that also appear when you hover over a block. The buttons are the left edit content, etc. The buttons on the right are for moving the block, duplicating it, or deleting it.

The Theme allows color changes to Headers, but it doesn't have a way to add a logo or other graphic.

An alternative is to turn off the Lesson Headers (assuming you can access Themes), and then create your own header blocks.
