Encrypt Suspend Data?
Hi jchoe,
Great to see that the community has been helping you.
I noticed that you've also connected with my teammate Nell through a support case. As he shared:
Storyline stores learner progress, variables, quiz state, and resume information in the SCORM cmi.suspend_data field. While this data is compressed to reduce its size, it is not encrypted. We do not recommend encrypting or modifying Storyline's cmi.suspend_data.
Storyline relies on the contents of cmi.suspend_data to restore course state when a learner resumes a session. Because the resume feature expects Articulate's proprietary data format, encrypting or altering this data may prevent the course from correctly restoring learner progress. Although it may be technically possible to modify the published output and intercept SCORM API calls with custom JavaScript, this is a customization and also not supported per our support policy. Modifying the published output may result in:
- Broken bookmarking or resume behavior
- Data corruption
- suspend_data size-limit issues
- Unexpected behavior after republishing the course
I'll leave the floor open for other users to share additional insight with you!
