Forcing users to watch majority or entire video clip

When using video clips in course content, is there any way of ensuring that the user watches the entire video clip before advancing to the next slide?

For a local video (inserted from file), you could place a transparent shape over the video's progress bar, sot hat users can't fastforward through the video. Then add a True/False variable that starts out a false and is set to true when the media (video) completes. Add a condition to the Next button's trigger, so that it only jumps to the next slide if the variable is true. Here is a quick example.

It's still coming in handy now! I was looking for this exact solution, thanks!

Great idea.  But what about a vimeo video?  Would that not work as well?

  • Hi, can someone advise how to ensure student see full-length of a video (inserted to module) while having free movement in the module's chapters? While using a modern player we encountered an issue when the movement is free, the slide is checked as completed even when not finished the full video..
The solution above is only working for restricted access and going step-by-step, slide by slide..

  • Hi Miroslava,

To help clarify, a slide is considered viewed as soon as the learner has visited/opened that particular slide - it does not take into account slide layers, timelines, etc., so the slide will be viewed once that slide's timeline starts.

It sounds like you'd like to restrict navigation only for the video but leave the rest of the course unrestricted. Hopefully others in the community can chime in with their suggestions!

Hi Ren, indeed, it's exactly what I'd like to have - unrestricted course while having restricted video on one slide (ideally with possibility to re-watch it as unrestricted for 2nd+ times).

It sounds as if this solution is Storyline only. Is there no option in Rise 360 for this? It's a really useful feature request. Otherwise I have to go sort it out in Storyline just to import it into Rise, which is a pain.

RossWhite did you figure out a work around? We are concerned that our learners are not watching the videos or fastforwarding them.

I too need to be able to force learners to watch the whole video (no fast fowarding).  In talent LMS we can set a lesson to sync to video. I'm surprised that A360 doesn't easily provide that option as well.

I did try the storyline slide hide seekbar and set video to autoplay. It worked in storyline on the slide. However, when I exported the video and added it to the Rise360 course, a seekbar was visible.

        Hi raeropos25,

I'm happy to jump in here!

It sounds like you'd like to require the learner to watch the entire video without fast forwarding, or skipping ahead in the course. Here's what to try:

        1. Disable Forward Seeking: On your video block, select the Format icon, and deselect Allow forward seeking. This prevents learners from fast-forwarding through the video.
        2. Restrict Navigation: Turn off the course sidebar or restrict course navigation so learners can't skip lessons.
        3. Add a Continue Block: After the video block, add a continue block and set the Completion Type to require learners to complete the block above the continue block.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or if you're trying to achieve something else. We're here to help!
