Major Storyline Audio Playback Issues
I have recently been receiving a lot of feedback from my course testers that there have been issues with audio not playing, audio only partly playing, incorrect audio playing or layer audio overlapping when they visit the slide initially, however when they return to the slide the audio works as designed.
Even weirder, two people may be testing the exact same package and will experience completely different audio glitches and some testers experience no glitches at all.
These tests have been done on both Review360 and in SCORM 1.2 and 2004 on our LMS. It has been tested in both Edge and Chrome. There are no issues with the timeline and the audio is not attached to any triggers. I've been using Storyline for around a decade now and have never encountered an issue like this.
From looking at the forums here it seems that a number of people are having similar issues, with no solutions provided or any update/explanations as to why this may be occurring.
This is incredibly frustrating, as it means nothing can get past quality control and be provided to clients.
Has anyone experienced this and found a fix?

Hi! I am experiencing the same inconsistent audio issues with overlapping. Has there been any resolution? Or, are there any suggested edits that I can make on my end?
Thanks!
Hello Stacey1,
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this as well. While we don't have a resolution to share, I have opened a support case on your behalf so we can learn more about your setup. Our team will be in touch shortly via email!

I am also experiencing the same issue. Can you please guide with a solution?
Hi gandhiraj & SaraChristensen,
Sorry to hear that you've also been struggling with audio playback issues from Storyline.
We recently resolved a Storyline bug that caused Slide Layers to not behave as expected when a Slide was revisited. Can you confirm that your Storyline installation is updated to the current version, 3.115.36688.0?
If you're still seeing this issue after updating and republishing your course, please connect with us through a support case. We're happy to take a closer look at your affected .story files!

StevenBenassi Thank you for your response. We have opened a support case regarding one of the courses we've experienced this with, but we've experienced it with three courses within the last several days so far in our LMS/live environment. All three were different users and random slides. In one case, one user experienced issues on several slides, while the other user experienced none. In another case, two users experienced issues, but on different slides within the same course.
The primary issues are not related to revisiting slides as indicated with the resolved bug.
Like MDeAsha, the issues we've seen are: audio not playing (initial audio on baselayer, as well as layers), incorrect audio playing, and audio overlapping. When returning to the slide the audio works as designed (in some cases we've had recurring issues with the same slide, but eventually it would play correctly after returning several times).However, we are not running the updated/current version. While the update doesn't seem to address the problem we are experiencing, we can update and continue to test.

We are currently experiencing the same issues with several courses. It's very frustrating. We've noticed that the reliability of this software has significantly declined since the AI features have been integrated. This is a critical problem that is preventing us from launching our courses on time, if at all, until there is a solution. I really hope Articulate can address this immediately.

I've been advised by upper-management testers that there are audio issues.
- Audio doesn't play in Review360 unless you hit replay or PREV
- Overlapping audio when used with layers, despite there being a button-set and "Hide other slide layers" and "Pause timeline of base layer"
I've had multiple other testers who don't report these issues. The audio is set to play at 0.25 seconds on both slides and layers.
I need a fix or workaround for this before upper-management reviews the course again.
Is there a known bug that you're not disclosing in the forum? Perhaps it's time to spend less effort on AI-assisted features and focus more on the basics. Thanks.
Hi MauraSullivan-9,
I just replied to your other post, here!

Hi all. Just adding my name to the list of poor unfortunates affected by this random audio glitching issue. My users/testers are experiencing the same problems (audio doesn't start, audio doubling, some audio appearing in the wrong screen entirely) and all completely random. This has been the case when run from Review360 and our LMS. Adding triggers to play media (rather than rely on the timeline alone) hasn't helped at all. Currently running v3.115.36688.0. Fingers crossed we can get a fix soon.

Hi,
We are experiencing very similar intermittent audio issues in Storyline 360 courses.
In our case, the issue only affects some users and appears to be stochastic. Sometimes there is no audio on a slide/layer, and in a few cases the wrong audio file appears to play. We have seen this in our LMS, in Review 360, and in SCORM Cloud using cmi5 packages. For one specific user, the issue occurred in our LMS but not in Review 360 for the same course.
When the issue occurs, we can see console errors indicating that a specific audio file cannot be loaded, for example:
GET .../story_content/[audio-file].mp3 net::ERR_CACHE_OPERATION_NOT_SUPPORTED
followed by:
AudioClipBase::constructor - could not load ".../story_content/[audio-file].mp3"
The console errors make us think this may be related to published media handling, caching, or how Storyline resolves audio files in the published output.
We have also opened a support case with Articulate, but wanted to add our findings here since the symptoms seem very similar.
Hi PaulBrennan-5fe and JonasGretzer,
I can see why this has been frustrating, especially with how inconsistent and hard to reproduce these audio issues can be.
Thanks for sharing these details, including the console errors and where you're seeing this across Review 360, LMS, and SCORM Cloud. That kind of information is really helpful for our team as we investigate.
We’re actively looking into reports like this, and I’ve made sure your findings are included in our tracking. I also see that you’ve opened a support case, Jonas, which is great, as it allows our team to take a closer look at your specific setup.
We’ll share updates here as we learn more.
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share that we’ve just released a new update for Storyline 360 (Build 3.116) that includes improvements related to this audio issue.
If you haven’t already, it would be helpful to update to the latest version, republish your course, and test again to see if the behavior improves in your environment.
If the issue persists after updating, feel free to reach out through a support case or continue working with our team if you already have one open so we can take a closer look at what’s happening on your end.

Hello! Just popping in to say that I have the updates installed and I've republished, but I'm still getting the same feedback about my audio being missing / incorrect, but not consistently. My team are looking at the same published version and one is experiencing the audio issues whilst two others are not.

Hi Eric,
Thank you for the update.
We have updated to the latest Storyline 360 version, republished the course, and tested again. Unfortunately, the issue still persists in our environment.
We are still seeing intermittent audio problems, especially when revisiting slides or going through the course a second time. In some cases, the audio does not play, and scrubbing the timeline can make the audio come back.
When the issue occurs, we still see console errors related to MP3 files, for example:
GET .../story_content/[audio-file].mp3 net::ERR_CACHE_OPERATION_NOT_SUPPORTED
followed by:
AudioClipBase::constructor - could not load ".../story_content/[audio-file].mp3"
I have attached a screenshot showing the issue occurring in SCORM Cloud after republishing with the latest version.
One important finding from our side: when we changed the cache handling for MP3 files in our own LMS, the issue could no longer be reproduced there. This seems to suggest that the issue may be related to how Storyline’s published output interacts with browser/media caching when revisiting slides. However, many of our clients run the courses in their own LMS environments, where we cannot control server headers or cache behavior.
We have already submitted this through a support case and have also sent several follow-up emails with additional information, but we have not yet received a response by email. Since this is becoming quite urgent for us, we would really appreciate it if someone from Articulate could get back to us by email as soon as possible.

Hi all. Updated to 3.116 and republished the course. It's a similar situation to JessLock. On my first test, the module failed to play some audio tracks (despite using triggers to play media). Backing up and reloading a screen fixed the issue. Second time through - audio played without issues. So it seems the random element is still there. FYI: Course was tested on our live LMS.😕

Hello, I am adding to the audio playback issues. I am on the most recent update (Storyline). I am also getting multiple complaints about the review tool. Latency, missing audio, blank screens, etc. While I personally do not experience this, the reviewers are frustrated as am I listening to all their feedback. Are there settings, or a specific browser they should be using? Why is it so random on who it selects to not work properly...any tips you can offer would be most appreciated!
Hi JessLock, JonasGretzer, PaulBrennan-5fe, and painthrsfan1,
Thank you all for taking the time to test again after updating to Storyline 360 Build 3.116 and for continuing to share your findings here.
The additional details you’ve shared around revisiting slides, inconsistent playback between users, LMS differences, console errors, caching behavior, and Review 360 symptoms are all really helpful as our team continues looking into the issue and gathering more information.
JonasGretzer, thank you as well for continuing to share updates through your support case. I also checked and saw that Georvy sent a response by email on May 4. If you haven’t seen it yet, it may be worth checking your spam or junk folder. If it’s not there either, please let me know and I’d be happy to help further.
painthrsfan1, at the moment we don’t have a specific recommended browser or browser setting to share for this behavior, since the issue appears to affect users inconsistently across environments. Could you also share which browser and browser version your reviewers are using when they encounter these issues? Additionally, does testing in a different updated browser change the behavior at all?
We’re continuing to actively track reports like these, and we’ll share updates here as soon as we know more.
