HeroLand- an adventure built within Storyline (and only storyline)
Hi all,
It's been an amazing year and with the latest developments from Articulate it's going to be another great one, however I wanted to show you all what can actually be done with Storyline 2 just by itself. This is more of an experiment, but to be honest would (still might) be my entry if there is a Guru challenge this year. But as things might be changing soon, I thought I'd give one last shoutout to one of the best design tools out there.
So here's the link - enjoy!
Sincerely, Rick

with the Storyline CD executable (Windows): attached to this post!

Wow, this was amazing. I really appreciated all the subtle effects and animations you added. It was also great to that you added the "behind the scenes" ebits of information.

Stunning! Very easy to navigate, very clean and engaging! Dare I even ask how long this took to create?!

My apologies. I am either really not smart or out of some loop.. how do you advance past the first screen? I only see a "Code" area and, if I am supposed to type into it, I don't know what I'm supposed to type. I read the info under the * about "What does this mean?"... sorry. I don't get how to move forward. I am using Chrome.

Hi Paula, I don't play a lot of video games either so no worries. If you're at the very beginning, look for the red button at the bottom right of the screen. Take a look at this short screencast for help.

Consider the Code area as a key. If you have the key of the level, you can just enter it and pass to next one. At the end of each level, the game gives you the key in case you may want to leave the game and play again later. In other words, they are 'save' files, or serve as save files.

Hi Paula, I was stumped for a while (at least 5-10 minutes) on the first screen as well. You have to find the watering can, fill it up, and water the flower. The flower will grow and the petals light up in a sequence which, if you click the arrow directions in the sequence shown on the flower, will lead you to a hidden place to find the key.
Hi Paula,
I admit it took me a bit to figure out too (I don't play any video games) but I was able to notice that there were the little arrows to navigate the little girl around the screen. As for the "code" area I'm not sure I'm clear on what you're seeing - perhaps dropping in a screenshot would help us figure that out?

That's weird. Have you tried to open it with a different browser? I'm not sure, but it may help.

Yup Same thing in Microsoft Edge and Firefox. Oh well.. I can see it in my imagination. :)

Hi, the button now always shows.

Hey Richard, you might want to consider removing the code field since you are not using it for this demo. If you did that this piece would be beyond perfection.

Well done Richard! I'm stuck at the flower. I already watered it and it's just playing musical notes over and over. How do I get the key? : )
- LeonardPugliaCommunity Member
Hi Daniel - you need to walk in the direction the flower indicates, (i.e. by clicking the arrows in the same sequence as the flower)

I agree with everyone else when I say this is a masterpiece. The peeps at Articulate should give you a Guru title just for this even if there isn't a competition going!

show us the key?

Spoilers for those stuck at the start : Go to the right of the level, get the watering pot, go to the left of the level and fill the pot with the spring water, then water the plant in the middle of the map. When the flower grows, it's petals will play a song. The petals that play each note correspond with the movement arrows you need to hit in the order you need to hit them to find the key.

Water the flower with water to the left of the flower then click the arrow keys in the sequence the flower shows you.

Wow, this is really impressive. Authoring tools for video games are becoming more popular; I hope this inspires the people at Articulate to build one since they are halfway there!
