Hotspot interaction - question about cursor

Hi All

I want to create an interaction where I display an image, and have the learner click 4 objects that are considered trip hazards in the home office.

I've done this by creating a freeform slide using hotspots as the 'correct' objects for the user to click.

When the user hovers over areas of the image, obviously the only spots where the cursor appears as a hand are the hotspots, which gives away the answers right away.

How can I make the cursor appear as a hand when hovering over any part of the image (the 4 'correct' hotspots, but also, all other areas of the image)?

I've attached my file for reference (I need to update the illustration as it's still not quite right but I'm just testing this for now!)

Thanks for any help!

Adrian

  • The tricky part will be for your learners to know what they have already "clicked" on since hotspots cannot have States.  But, if you want to use hotspots for this, you can right click the hotspots to remove the option of showing the hand cursor.

  • As RonPrice said, you can adjust a hotspot's setting so the hand cursor doesn't show on hover.

Another option is to add a hotspot that covers the rest of the image. If you do that, be sure it's below the "correct" hotspots. Of you could add hotspots over "wrong" items, to create distractors.

    • Someone using a keyboard instead of a mouse will be able to find whatever is "clickable."

By the way, as Ron also mentioned, hotspots don't have states. If you want to provide feedback about what the user has clicked, you could use shapes instead of hotspots. Just give the shapes a solid fill with 100% transparency.

Thank you both so much for the clear explanations and your help! This makes sense and I think I'll go with transparent shapes for the object selection instead of hotspots. :-)
