import video with alpha background
I have shot our learning host on green screen, keyed out the background in adobe premier cc and rendered a Quicktime file that imports into all my other apps with the alpha or transparent background fine but when I bring the same file into storyboard it comes in with the black background. Any clues or tips when it comes to importing video with transparent backgrounds? You can see this in the attached screen capture.
Thanks

I am using Storyline 2 Update 10
HI Mark,
What's the file type you're using? We support FLV files with alpha transparency.

Hello Ashley, I have read the forums and that is what I understand however it also doesn't seem like that is 100%. We have updated cloud apps so they no longer offer FLV from Media Encoder or Premier Pro, seems like Quicktime with Animation Codec @32bit is the popular and most stable format when exporting media with alpha channels. Hopefully you guys can add support for that moving forward since Flash and FLV are dying. Trust me not a fan 15 years as Flash AS designer.
I have an older version of media encoder at home I will try exporting to FLV. I will post my results.
FYI Quicktime sorta works about 30% of the data is affected as you can see in the screen grab in my earlier post.
Thank you
Hi Mark,
Currently we natively support FLV, SWF and MP4 video types, and a number of other types will be converted to MP4 as mentioned here.
I'm not incredibly familiar with the Adobe cloud apps or the types you've mentioned but I'll certainly pass it along to our team in terms of future support for different formats. You can also send along specific ideas and feature requests here by contacting our Product developers.

Hi Mark,
Have you tried mp4? I do green screen that same way you do with Premiere. That's my go to and works pretty well with SL2.

Heya Alex!
When you import the finished mp4 into SL2, the background is remaining transparent? Could you share your export settings?
I cannot seem to get an mp4 with a transparent background into SL2 without SL2 adding a black background.
Thanks!

I could never get it to work Jason so I added a graphic background in CC Premier before exporting to MP4

Hi
I have tried now in story line 360 a video with alpha background, the video is FLV but i did not work probably, black background appeared in the preview mode and in the browser also.
appreciate your support.
Hi Mohammed,
Alpha channel transparency isn't supported in HTML5 output, so FLV videos with alpha channels will be encoded as MP4 videos in HTML5 output.
Have you tried publishing with Flash-first to see if that makes a difference? The video won't be encoded to MP4 in Flash.

I apologize, but there is no solid answer to anyone's questions. So, is SL3 able to accept MP4 with the background remaining transparent? SL2 does not, and FLV are almost extinct formats...
Hi Stacey,
MP4 videos don't support transparency in the same way that an FLV video does with alpha channel. Another video format that does support transparency is the .webm video format, but we don't support it in Storyline or Studio since IE, Safari and Mobile Safari also don't support it.
Hope that helps clarify.
