IMPORTANT! - a fix if you have a PLAY button appearing at start of courses
OK, Articulate rolled out an update to Storyline and it seems that now when publishing a course, instead of auto-playing (as before) it now puts a nasty big PLAY button on the first screen.
Hopefully Articulate will roll out a fix (very!) soon.
In the meantime, I have discovered that AUDIO on the opening slide will cause this. Removing the audio, removed the PLAY button and things went back to normal.
Therefore to get round the issue, try what I did - create a tiny opening slide of a flat colour (same as your project background) and set it to be your opening slide.
Worked well for me, and thankfully I can now stop hearing screaming from my clients.

Hi all. I also see the play button in chrome even when there are no videos or audio in the content. What would it be the workaround in this case?
Hi Roger!
The play button should only appear if there are media on the first slide. It sounds like this is different than what you're seeing, so I'd like our Support Engineers to step in and work with you directly.
Do you mind sharing your project with us privately in a support case?

Hi, I also see a play button in Edge for Engage HTML5 FAQ Interactions, although there is no video or audio embedded in the content. This just occurs recently, before that the engage faq file did auto play.... What changed recently?
Thanks for your support.

Hi Alessandra!
By default, if you have media on the first slide, you'll see a Play button appear. As a workaround, you might consider adding a blank slide before the Engage slide.
I'm looking forward to hearing other workarounds from our community!

Thanks Lauren.
How can a blank slide be added before the Introduction in an FAQ engage format? This is not Storyline, this is a pure FAQ, Media (png file) is on the Introduction.
Hello Alessandra!
For this workaround to work, you'd want to import the Engage interaction into Storyline and then add a blank slide before. You could also use this slide to ask the user's name or even a "Start Course" button.

I'm having the same issue, it's horrible. We're adding more audio buttons for our reading impaired, so this is creating a horrible disruption in our presentations. Thanks for the tip, will try to work around this really troublesome change.

Thankyou very much!! This was a huge issue for me and didn't understand why it happened... I thought it had something to do with the player.

You can now (2021) have Storyline 360 add a cover photo so that at the very least you don't get a black overlay with a white Play button. It's slightly more user friendly than the blacked out media. https://access.articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-and-Studio-Videos-Don-t-Autoplay-When-Slides-Advance-Automatically

A timeline jump will break something. It needs to be a user interaction. That said a recent update means I always have a black box no matter what. Hoping that gets fixed soon. You can set the poster frame in the player settings to show the first slide.

I used 2 slides. This was for a Rise SL import.
- slide 1 Play button on SL slide, and triggar "jump to next slide when user clicks Play button."
I also removed the seek bar from the first slide to avoid confusion, i.e. so viewer didn't become frustrated by clicking on it and nothing happens.
- slide 2 the one with the content plays. Thanks so much for sharing your setup with the community, Ange. I like how you removed the seekbar from the first slide to avoid confusion. This information is a big help to other community members with a similar design requirement.
Enjoy the rest of your day, and happy developing! 🙂

Thank you! Always good to share, I have discovered many things through other people sharing, which would have taken me hours/days, even weeks (or never) to find a resolve.
