Is There a Way to Highlight Text?

Hey, Tom! Is there a way to make this scenario work (it might not be possible):

There's a block of text on the slide. Students are asked to highlight certain sections of the text in different colors. There are three buttons on the slide for each highlighter color: yellow, green, and blue. When the student clicks the yellow button, they are highlighting in yellow. When they click green, they are highlighting in green, and so on. I've created the highlighted shapes with selected states, as you described above, for each color. Is there a way to make each color of shapes selectable only when that color button has been selected by the student? I've attached the slide so you can see what I'm trying to get at.
