Launch Resource Tab Contents in New Window

Hello,

I have developed a course using the Modern player style. How can I program the Resources Tab (top menu) so that when clicking a resource website link it opens in a new window outside of the course?

Currently, when clicking a resource website in the Resources Tab the web page opens in the same window replacing the course.

I am using MS Edge as the browser. This is the same browser used by our organization's Learning Management System (LMS).

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hi Valerie,

Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community!✨

There isn't a setting in Storyline to force a resource link to open in a new window, as all those options are browser and LMS-specific. I recommend testing your course with SCORM Cloud with a few different browsers. Check out this step-by-step article!

You can then contact your LMS to see if there are settings you can change on their end to open links in new windows.

Let me know if this works!

  • Hi Kelly, I am having the same problem. In addition, it seems to be random if the PDF file actually opens, opens on the second attempt, or not at all. I checked with my LMS hosts and they do not have a setting within the LMS to control this, as it is a feature controlled by the specific browser. That seems to make sense, considering my experimentation using various browsers confirmed this. The LMS host also advised that they have a setting within their proprietary authoring tool to control this so it doesn't "kick learners out." Considering the broad spectrum of operating environments and devices used it seems that this behaviour could vary for an infinite number of variables; Win 10, Win 11, Android device, Apple device, Linux, Safari, Edge, Firefox, Chrome, even some systems still on I-net Explorer legacy tech. In order to avoid this problem, would Articulate consider having the software techs building such a feature to allow authors to control how and where the resource opens? Thanks
