Layers set to 'Resume saved state' are not working properly
- 5 months ago
Hello everyone, 🎉
I have some great news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 91, we’ve included important fixes and new features. One of the bugs we’ve fixed:
- When revisiting slides, object states, layers, animations, and audio started over, even if they were set to resume saved states
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You’ll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you need additional help.
Hi Kelly,
As Katy reports the issue has not been fixed.
Since build 88 the 'Resume saved state' for layers has not been functioning.
Since build 88 whenever a user returns to a slide which contains layers set to 'Resume saved state' the layer in question does not resume in a saved state - instead plays from the start – as if the layer has been set to ‘Resume to initial state’.
I've provided Articulate support with a clear example of the issue.
Having layers resume at the saved state is a critical function to most if not all of our courses. At the moment the only option we have is to use build 87 – which means not being able to utilise any other fixes since build 87.
I have let Articulate support know that issue has not been fixed.
If possible please escalate this issue as I'm sure it affects many of your users - many of whom may not have realised that they have published and realeased courses that do not function as they have intended.
I'm experiencing the opposite issue. I have layers that I absolutely want to have start over on revisit, and even though I've selected "Reset to Initial State", they are opening up in the closing state.

Hi OwenHolt,
Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with the states within your course. I'd like to learn a few more details.
- Could you share a bit more about what is included in your layers? It sounds like you have ensured your Slide Properties are set to Reset to initial state, which is right on track!
- Are you experiencing this behavior in a published output or when previewing your course?
We'd be happy to take a closer look at your file within this thread or privately to investigate further. Feel free to upload your .story when you have the chance.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I have a similar issue to Owen's. I have a Storyline block within Rise. When I go through the course, it does not remember saved states on slides although I have set slides to "Resume Saved State." (This is also true on LMS, see "update" below.)
The Storyline has 2 slides: The first slide has a Play button which proceeds to the next slide. I set it to "Resume Saved State." Although I set up a variable to skip the first slide after the user clicks the Play button, it does not work if I go elsewhere in the Rise course and then return.
The second slide is set to "Resume Saved State," this slide restarts to initial state. One note--I did set the individual layers on the 2nd slide to "Reset to Initial State," but I assume this is fine as Storyline allows you to set the layers differently from the base slide.
UPDATE I decided to do some LMS testing to see how things functioned.
1. I published the Rise course with the Storyline block on our LMS, and it the Storyline block acts the same as described above--neither slide resumes saved state.
2. I published the same Storyline file as a course and on our LMS, and the Resume Saved State functionality works correctly.
(Note: I found this thread from another thread, On revisit, having the layer resume to saved state | Articulate - Community)

Hi AnneDeFelice,
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand the Rise course that includes the Storyline block doesn't resume the saved state when viewed in your LMS. Storyline courses in Rise always start over from the beginning when learners revisit them, so this behavior is expected. You may want to check out the other FAQs for Storyline Blocks here. If you have additional questions and would like to share a copy of your course with our team, you can do that through a support case! We'll be happy to take a look for further testing and will delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.
