Localization Closed Captions not appearing on Layers - HELP!

I have a file created in English and translated to French using the localization feature. Due to timeline management, some slides have layers for french vs english. When published, the CCs for only the SECOND layer in the order of layers shows up. So if English is selected as the language, English CC shows. If French is selected, French CC does NOT show. 

 

But on this slide below, only the English CCs show up

    Thanks for responding. The triggers are shown in the images. For the base layer:  Simply a show layer French if language == French. There are no language triggers on the layers as the audio automatically plays in the right language due to the localization feature built in to storyline. 

    Multiple audio on a slide does not solve the issue. It's the objects that need to time different on the slide based on the audio. E.g. Typically Spanish audio is a lot longer than English audio for the same sentence. If I leave the audio on the base and the objects on layers, then I would have to turn off seeking via the timeline as that would not work as expected by the user. I suppose I could duplicate every object on a slide and set states to hidden/normal for each object based on the language, but that seems a little ridiculous. The way I'm doing it with layers is also absurd, but was the easiest workaround and the one recommended by Articulate. 

    Duplicating slides is also a ridiculous solution - though it's what I'm doing right now because my deadline is looming. 

    These are legacy projects that were designed before I came onboard and I cannot redesign the slides. However I have strongly suggested to the design team that they keep slides to one or very few objects that need synching to the audio tracks to avoid this issue. So more slides with less content per. 

    This is a really big oversight by Articulate imho. I hope they can fix this asap. The localization feature is very expensive and if we have to keep doing workarounds like this, my client is likely to just abandon it.

      Ah, I see. The added context helps about why you were using the layers to line up animations with the audio. 

      Sorry you’re in this bind right now. More slides with less content moving forward is a great way to prevent this, but not much help for you now, I know. Duplicating slides does sound like your best best. Sending good vibes you get this to work well enough!

    Hello! Can you include screenshots of how the triggers are set for language = French or language = English? That may help to problem solve.

    Some possible solutions:

    Storyline's localization system really seems to expect only one language per slide, so you can make separate slides instead of layers. I know that wasn't your original intent, but is the best way to confirm. You can duplicate the slides and have one for English and one for French.

    You could also try playing both English and French audio objects on the base timeline and give each audio object its own CC file.
    So that would mean import the english audio, import the french audio, and make sure they both start at 0 on the timeline.

    For each audio import the closed captions, so they each have their own CC file.

    Create a language variable (one for English and one for French) and use triggers to play the correct audio object. Make sure neither is on auto play.
