Measuring and Reporting Learner Actions

We are trying to test various interactions from Storyline in our LMS (Absorb) to see what type of results we're able to pull from learner actions. I'm hitting a road block and wondering if anyone else has been able to achieve something similar.

Example: We want to measure learners' confidence to do X task at the start of the course. They use a dial or slider to record their confidence from 0-10. At the end of the course, we measure their confidence again. We then want a variable to calculate the difference and report it in the SCORM to the LMS.

I have tried linking a freeform question with the slider or dial variable but haven't been successful, yet. Any suggestions?

I have used xAPI statements to add custom variables and data to clients LMS systems. I looked through my notebooks and found this gem:

Storyline 360 provides functionality for custom xAPI statements: when publishing for xAPI or cmi5, you can use triggers to send variable data—such as quiz scores, user inputs, or other custom variables to your LMS. Even saved the Storyline article

This is promising. Thank you for sharing. I tend to be more creative than technical so I'll have to put on my thinking cap and deep dive into the article.
