MP4 Videos Restarting in LMS When Clicking on Seek Bar or Video Controls
I am having an issue in Storyline 360 where whenever I include an MP4 video and publish to our LMS the videos don't seem to function properly. Once in the LMS, if you select anywhere on the seek bar or on the video controls then it resets the video while continuing the timeline, thus off-setting the timing of the whole slide.
Ideally, I would like the MP4 to function as a part of the seek bar. That is, if I click on 5:00 minutes into the seek bar, it would take me to the 5:00 minute point in the MP4.
I have looked into other threads with similar discussion and issues and have tried some various troubleshooting options (i.e. enabling seek bar with users able to drag, enabling video controls -which does the same thing and resets the video if you touch them-, using triggers to pause the timeline when the media starts and continue when the media completes, etc) and have had no luck. I just end up with the same end-product which is that if you touch the seekbar or video controls you will off-set that entire slide and potentially not be able to gain anything from the video or cause a lot of learner confusion navigating through.
Is there any solution to this or a way that we can change the settings so that the MP4 will play as a part of the seekbar/timeline once it is published and added to our LMS? Or at least any way for our learners to be able to have control over the MP4 and go back or forward as needed without conflicting with the overall product and timing of the course?
Some extra info: Format is HTML5 and using Modern player. LMS output is SCORM 2004 and I will also attach a file including a slide with an MP4 so that you can settings and what I'm working with.
Hello Wyatt and welcome to E-Learning Heroes 😊
By default, when adding a video from a file, it will be automatically synchronized with the slide and controlled by the timeline.
Here is a video added and using the default settings to sync with the Seekbar:
Here are your video settings that require the video to play when clicked and has independent video controls, which will not be synced with the seekbar:
Hopefully, this helps clarify the behavior. Let us know if you have any further questions.

Hi,
I can confirm we have the same issue when inserting the videos the correct way.
This behaviour is only on an LMS environment, and only for the Modern player.
Something is wrong with the Modern player itself.
Thanks

Hi Maria, I am having this same issue. Has there been any update or resolution? Thanks
Hello Stephanie!
We released a fix for this bug Storyline 360 (Build 3.63.27628.0)! We are now on Storyline 360 Update 65 (Build v3.65.28121.0). If you're not using the latest version, I'd recommend updating so you can take advantage of this bug fix.
If you're still seeing this behavior in the latest version of Storyline 360, do you mind sharing your .story file with our Support Engineers in a support case?

I am still having this same problem and am completely up to date with my version of Storyline. The videos are synced until I get into the LMS, and then they start over every time the seek bar is used. I need the user to be able to scroll through the videos at will.
My file is included. Thanks!
Update: I went ahead and started a support case, but thought I'd leave this here in case anyone else has ideas.
Hi Julie,
Thanks for reaching out!
I'm sorry to hear that you're running into this issue and I see that you’ve reached out to our Support Engineers. You’re in great hands! We’ll continue the conversation in your support case.

I am still facing this issue. I have tried all the above-mentioned solutions but it doesn't work properly on LMS.
Please update here incase anyone got solution to this problem. - JulieBeddoesCommunity Member
We still have the problem, but everyone seems to think it is something in the registry keys of our LMS. So basically, sucks to be me... I'm not 100% convinced of that, but can't really do anything else at the moment to figure this out. Seems that if I'm not the only one with the issue, it's not likely our LMS.
Hi Julie,
Sorry to hear that you are still encountering this issue. I reached out to Phil who is working with you previously on your issue so he can continue troubleshooting the behavior with you. You're in good hands, and we'll continue this conversation in the case that you opened.
Hi Vandana,
We recommend testing your course in SCORM Cloud just to get an idea of whether the issue is isolated to your LMS. If you are able to replicate the behavior in SCORM Cloud, please open a case with our support team here to get in touch with one of our support engineers. They'll be able to take a look at your project file and test to see what's happening.

Hello all,
Like Julie, I am encountering a similar issue when it comes to using a seek bar to navigate video content in the form of an e-learning module. For reference, we use Microsoft Edge and Cornerstone as our LMS.
When exporting to Review 360, the content behaves as expected, allowing the user to navigate the seek bar to adjust the timeline of the video.
Would you suggest the issue is with the browser type and/or LMS used?- MikeMeredithCommunity Member
Hi Scott!
I am having the same problems, and the Articulate Support Team has been investigating the issue for about three months. I am getting pretty desperate. Did you find a solution?I'm happy to jump in! We're still looking into the bug report related to your support case, Grant. I appreciate your patience. Please expect Ryan to provide an update once it is fixed.
In the meantime, please let us know if Heikki's solution will work for you; I'm glad to assist further as needed!

Hi Scott,
Thanks for reaching out! I understand you have an issue using the seek bar when viewing your course in your LMS. Here are a couple of troubleshooting steps that may help fix the problem.
1) Re-encode the video file and upload it to your project. You can use any video encoder you prefer, but we recommend Handbrake since the default video conversion settings work well with Articulate.
2) Upload your file into a brand new Storyline file and see if that works.
I would also recommend reaching out to Cornerstone support to check if they can see what is happening from their backend when trying to use the video controls.
I hope this helps!

I am having the same issue. Video starting over when using seekbar. Fine when previewing the slide but once published to articulate review the seekbar stops working correctly. Same issue with video controls. I have opened a support case.
