MP4 Videos Restarting in LMS When Clicking on Seek Bar or Video Controls
I am having an issue in Storyline 360 where whenever I include an MP4 video and publish to our LMS the videos don't seem to function properly. Once in the LMS, if you select anywhere on the seek bar or on the video controls then it resets the video while continuing the timeline, thus off-setting the timing of the whole slide.
Ideally, I would like the MP4 to function as a part of the seek bar. That is, if I click on 5:00 minutes into the seek bar, it would take me to the 5:00 minute point in the MP4.
I have looked into other threads with similar discussion and issues and have tried some various troubleshooting options (i.e. enabling seek bar with users able to drag, enabling video controls -which does the same thing and resets the video if you touch them-, using triggers to pause the timeline when the media starts and continue when the media completes, etc) and have had no luck. I just end up with the same end-product which is that if you touch the seekbar or video controls you will off-set that entire slide and potentially not be able to gain anything from the video or cause a lot of learner confusion navigating through.
Is there any solution to this or a way that we can change the settings so that the MP4 will play as a part of the seekbar/timeline once it is published and added to our LMS? Or at least any way for our learners to be able to have control over the MP4 and go back or forward as needed without conflicting with the overall product and timing of the course?
Some extra info: Format is HTML5 and using Modern player. LMS output is SCORM 2004 and I will also attach a file including a slide with an MP4 so that you can settings and what I'm working with.

If anyone gets a resolutions for this, I would love to hear what was done to fix it.
Thanks!
Hi Julie!
Sorry to hear that you are still encountering this issue!
I noticed you've opened a support case and have been working with my colleague Philam previously. It looks like Philam replied to your e-mail sharing some feedback. Since the behavior could not be replicated when testing in SCORM Cloud, he suggested reaching out to your LMS support to see if they can investigate what is happening from their backend when trying to use the video controls.
If you have any further questions for Philam, feel free to reply to him through your case!
Hi Kerri!
Sorry to hear you're also experiencing trouble with videos from your course restarting unintentionally!
Great move on opening up a support case! It looks like you've been working with my teammate John Carlo. I see that you provided some detailed updates to John Carlo regarding this behavior. You should be hearing back from him shortly!
We can continue this conversation in your support case to keep all information in one spot.

We have the same problem. Our client has Storyline 360 SCORM packages and they don't work properly with our LMS if you use Chrome (works fine with Firefox). Audio or video starts at the beginning if you click on seek bar. However there is no problem using same packages with another LMS (Torara). Are there some HTTP headers or cache controlling you should use?

on every slide or only on the first slide?

is the course running in a popop browser window or in an iframe in the different LMS
- if you see no url on top of the browser window -> popup
- if you see an url on top of the browser window -> probably iframe

It is in a popup window.
In our LMS you can choose whether it's an iframe or popup window, but it behaves the same way in both cases.

do you use any "trick" to avoid the 'ugly' play button on start course?

It happens with the ugly play button.

We added 'Accept-Ranges' HTTP-header and now it works.

I'm not sure HOW to implement Heikki's solution. Could I get a step-by-step on how to add the HTTP header?

We are having exactly the same issue using Moodle. Is there any solution given to this already?
Thanks!
Hi Angel,
Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue.
To troubleshoot the behavior, please test your course in SCORM Cloud to see if the behavior you're experiencing is specific to your LMS. If the issue is only happening in Moodle, kindly contact their support team as they'll be better positioned to fix the LMS-specific problems.
If you can replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, please share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening. We'll delete it when we're done testing!

My team and I are experiencing this issue and have been for over a year. I had a support ticket open in late 2023 and we were unable to diagnose the root cause.
In both our LMS (Learn365) and in Review360, videos will restart when the user drags the seekbar. This also happens sporadically when we click the play/pause button. This issue is not isolated to just videos; audio clips are also restarting when the user clicks play/pause or moves the timeline.
The browser we currently use is the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge. I used to have Firefox on my work computer and did test in that browser as well. I did not experience this issue in Firefox, which is not a Chromium browser. This leads me to believe that there's something in the builds of these Chromium browsers that is not communicating consistently with Articulate's media players. I could be wrong but that is my guess based on the hours I have spent troubleshooting this issue.
Worth noting that Edge Chromium was released on January 15, 2020 and this ticket was opened in October of the same year.
