NEW IN STORYLINE 360: Slide Numbers
We’re excited to share a powerful new feature in Storyline 360: slide numbers.
Now you can add slide numbers to your Storyline 360 project to show learners their progress through a course. Storyline 360 will automatically calculate how far learners have left in your course. And you can quickly exclude slides if you don’t want them counted toward the total.
Here’s how slide numbers work:
Enjoy!

Great feature. Question- how do I ensure that the progress of project% is reset if i have a retake button (trigger = restart course) at the end of the course? I just cannot get the % to reset if i retake the course (even if i adjust the built-in variable) :( please help...

Hi Chris,
Possibly not exactly what you are looking for, but if you use project slide numbers instead, users will always know where they are in the course. It also makes for easier troubleshooting. I use project slide number put up against total project slides.
Best regards

Hi Michael,
That works for courses with a linear order, but does not work for courses where the students find their own way through the slides/scenes. 'Progress' means how many slides of a course/scene the student has viewed and this can be different from a current slide the student is viewing.

We have a few of these branching type of courses. I'm curious how everyone addresses students' need for a progress indicator in such cases.

I used the variable Scene.SlideNumber to create a progressbar based on a progressbar:

How do I get the slide numbers on the Master to be visible when I have a shape across my slide?
I inserted the slide numbers in the Slide Master. All works well except if I have a shape going across the slide. That shape covers up the slide numbers and there's no way for me to move them to the front to be visible since they are on the Master.

How about creating a layout slide below the master where your shape is inserted? You could then put the slide numbers in front of the shape? Pretty basic solution, I know, but would it work?

The problem is I have multiple slides where I put the shape so I could put it on the Master for those cases. The shape is really used for a title background so I could use your suggestion but sometimes I need to make the shape bigger/smaller so I need to be able to access it at slide level.
I suppose I could just design the slide to leave the corner reserved for the slide numbers but I like the contrast when it's layered on top of the colored shape.

Hi Mike,
I know only one way to do this and the solution has the do with the order layers are shown.
In the attached example I created a new layer Slidenumber on the masterslide that holds the slidenumber. On the Base Layer of the masterslide there are two triggers:
- Show layer Slidenumber WHEN variable showNumber changes
- Toggle variable showNumber WHEN the timeline starts
Perhaps this is a solution but you cannot use Hide other slide layers on the Slide Layer Properties.

Chris,
Thanks for this. Unfortunately, inability to hide other slide layers would be an issue. I have multiple slides utilizing layers so slides would get really cluttered and make the slide unusable.
I guess I could just insert the slide numbers on the individual slides so I can re-order the objects or make the shapes smaller to uncover the object on the Master. A bit disappointing though.

I love this addition. What is the possiblity of also having a progress bar automated? We use progress bars more often than slide numbers and currently they are manually created with shapes. It would be fantastic to see them autmated like the numbers,

No I hadn't! You have just blown my mind and I am showing this to our developers now! Thanks so much.

Hello everybody,
today I have encountered a problem, the number jumps between 9 and 10, after right or between a one-digit and a two-digit number, for me is between 9/15 and 10/15, I do not know if it was clearly explained, see Attachment. The Slide Numbers was placed on master foil.
Thank you for any help.

What if you align the textbox right? Perhaps you can share (a part of) the SL-projectfile.

It worked, thanks for the good idea, it's up to textual alignment. :-)
