PRIMER: How to Branch in a Rise Course
Can a Rise course be set up to branch to different content? I recently saw multiple discussions asking that same question.
The answer: Yes!
Note that the ability to branch comes with some caveats:
- All navigation must be done with Button and Button Stack blocks. In other words, you have to turn off the built-in menu and the Prev/Next Lesson buttons.
- Rise doesn't have a way to track which branch someone follows. It can only track completion.
- Completion can only be tracked via one of the following methods:
1) Steer all users to the same final Lesson in Rise. In that Lesson, insert a Storyline block that has a completion trigger. Track completion via that Storyline block.
or
2) Steer all users to the same final Quiz in Rise. Track completion via that Quiz.

I absolutely love your demo! Thanks so much, Judy! Wondering how you did this interactive check "you have successfully completed this course" in Rise. And I did not have to click a play button once I entered the completion page - this "processing circle" activated automatically followed by the completion info and the check. Thanks again.

AnnaPalackaā: I'm glad the demo was helpful.
The "you have successfully completed this course" message is a Storyline block. The Storyline file is just that slide, with a "Complete course" trigger that runs when the timeline starts.
Any "processing circle" you saw is from the browser loading the SL block.
FYI: I include the message about the Play button just in case the SL block doesn't autoplay. (If it didn't autoplay for someone and that person didn't click the Play button, the course wouldn't be registered as complete in an LMS/LRS.)

Awesome! Clear. I could see the storyline block bit in your demo but did not know that I can incorporate it that easily into a Rise course, Thanks again! Love.

Hey Everyone,
Is it possible to create a Storyline/Rise Course with the following triggers? This would be great to steer training volumes for the same training if a new or more experienced colleague performs it.- JudyNolletSuper Hero
JanRippelā: The image inserted with your question is a screenshot of the intro to my Rise course about branching in Rise, which I assume you accessed via the link in my original post above.
That course follows those paths, and the content in the paths explains how the course is set up.
So, obviously, it is possible to set up a Rise course with that branching.
It is also possible to branch in Storyline.
If you have further questions about how to do something in one of your courses, I suggest you start a new discussion. That increases its visibility, which makes it more likely to get replies from multiple folks with different ways to approach the problem. Having each new question in its own discussion thread also makes it easier for others to find potential solutions when they have a similar problem.
I also suggest clearly describing the following: What you want to happen, what is not happening that should happen, what is happening that should not happen, and what you have already tried.
If it's a Storyline question, it also helps to upload a .story file for troubleshooting. Here are the best practices for doing that:
- Only include slides that are related to the problem.
- Be sure objects, layers, motion paths, and variables have meaningful names.
- If there is proprietary content, replace or delete it. For example, replace proprietary text with āipsum loremā text.
