Problems with graphics / shapes freezing storyline

Hi -  I am running into problems with the latest release of Storyline when I try working with graphics (.png) and/or shapes.  Any action - importing, saving, changing states etc. causes the app to freeze up.   Media library freezes up when I try to import.  I've also found that objects on layers are showing through pictures and objects on "higher" layers.  Masking does not help.

I am working on the hard drive.  Windows 10.  I've tried reinstalling and importing into a new project, etc.  This is costing me days of development time.
