Recover file?
I was working on a Storyline project and my computer unexpectedly shut down. TOTALLY my fault for not saving my work, but I lost everything. Does anyone know if there's a way or place to look to recover this file? I already looked in my Roaming file.
Thank you in advance.

other than the %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline folder, then I think you may be out of luck. Try searching that string in a computer folder window and see if anything else comes up. Maybe your computer saves it differently. One can always hope.

Hi Stacy,
Oh no! I am so sorry that happened!
As Randy mentioned, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:
- Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
- Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
- Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
- Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
We also have a great video that demonstrates this process here.

Just ran into this issue today strangely with a course that I had published to Rise 360 but couldn't locate the working file. I thought I was going crazy but I was just able to recover it using this method. You just saved me and my sanity! Thank you Vincent!

Vincent - This is an old thread so you probably won't see this, but in case you do...THANK YOU! You just saved me hours of rework.
Thanks so much for letting us know, Elizabeth!
Glad to hear this workaround from Vincent assisted you with recovering your files!

Seems the beta version of Storyline is not saving temp files as frequently. Storyline crashed (no surprise) but this time I lost my whole days work. The only temp file and only saved file is from the end of my work day yesterday when I last saved.
Seems I've become overly reliant on auto-recover but the beta version can't be relied on for auto-recover.- JacquieDeVita-5Community Member
I just lost a day's work as well when a company security patch forced a restart on my laptop. 8 HOURS of work gone. And now, not the slightest hint that I was working in Storyline at all. I'd like to foray this complaint into a request. Why not institute frequent and reliable autosave? Isn't that the most logical thing to do, especially with people who may be designing coursework for the first time? I was crying REAL TEARS earlier when I returned to my desk and saw that my laptop had restarted and that I'd lost so much work.
Hi Jacquie!
I'm so sorry to hear about this setback and the frustration it has caused you!
Thank you for the feedback on the type of save functionality that could benefit you when authoring in Storyline. To clarify, have you already tried to recover a previous version from your temp files?
Vincent shared steps for that process earlier in the discussion.
